Two young women were flown by helicopter to a San Diego hospital early Saturday to be treated for injuries suffered in an accident at 8:40 this morning at Mission Avenue and Canyon Drive in Oceanside, police said.
The women, who are in their 20s, were in a Honda sedan that pulled out of a shopping center on the southwest corner of the intersection when it was struck broadside by a large Ford pickup truck heading south on Canyon, said Oceanside police Lt. Lee Steitz.
"There was a pretty significant collision," Steitz said, adding that the accident triggered the closure of the 100 block of Canyon Drive for about an hour.
He said no details about the injuries were available. The women were taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital.
Steitz said the driver and a passenger in the truck were not injured.
