Thousands of poll workers needed

SAN DIEGO -- Nearly 20,000 more people are needed countywide to work the polls during the presidential primary, direct primary and general elections next year, county Registrar of Voters Deborah Seiler said.
With the presidential primary election seven weeks away, only 2,300 people have signed up to serve, and 6,500 registered voters are needed. In particular, the following bilingual staff are still needed: 994 who speak Spanish and English, 256 who speak Filipino and English, and 157 who speak Vietnamese and English.
Poll workers can make $75-$150 depending on the assignment, and bilingual workers get an additional $15. All workers receive training, including a new online component to reinforce lessons from the classroom and manual.
For more information, visit www.sdcounty.ca.gov/voters/Eng/Eindex.html or contact the registrar of voters office at (858) 565-5800 during business hours or (858) 694-3480 after hours.

If they cannot read and speak wrote on Dec 19, 2007 9:36 AM:ENGLISH how can they be allowed to vote? This is AGAINST our laws!!! It is a doorway open to voter FRAUD! You must read and speak English to be an AMERICAN CITIZEN!!! We don't want any bilinguel poll workers.

It's a long day and all the poll workers I have ever worked with are trying to assist voters with the process. I suggest that you work the polls just one time and get back to us on your opinion.
