350-gallon sewage spill reported in Carlsbad

CARLSBAD ---- An estimated 350 gallon sewage spill reported Monday afternoon at Hoover Street was the result of roots blocking the mainline, authorities said.

County environmental health officials said the sewage spilled out of a manhole and entered a storm drain at Hoover Street.

Signs warning of sewage-contaminated water will remain posted at the boat dock and recreational area near Snug Harbor/Cal Watersports until sample results indicate the ocean waters are safe.

Updates are available on the 24-hour hotline at (619) 338-2073 or at www.cleanup.org

Carlsbad Resident wrote on Jan 1, 2008 9:36 PM:This kind of sums up how Carlsbad and the rest of the communities feel about all your building. IT STINKS!

Get out wrote on Jan 2, 2008 8:34 AM:p.U.! and Carlsbad resident should vacate the city as a population reducing community service if they think a sewer spill is caused by new home building rather than poor sewer system maintenance.

FTM wrote on Jan 2, 2008 7:00 PM:Follow the Money. Carlsbad don't spend no money on Cops or Schools for so many years, (till 07), you think they ever spent any money on sewer infrastucture?

Al wrote on Jan 3, 2008 9:33 AM:But they have $70 million in reserves. I think that's to cover the black hole they call a golf course.

Meghan wrote on Jan 3, 2008 3:52 PM:Darn tree roots. Why is it whenever there is a story about Carlsbad some doofus brings up the golf course? I bet those folks have a very high handicap!

FTM wrote on Jan 4, 2008 9:20 AM:It's true . . I have never seen so many tightwad white people in plaid pants and white golf shoes in my life!

You younger family types in Carlsbad really need to take contol of your city from these tightwad retirees that are strangling your town to death. You need more than three people on your city council so you can get some proper representation from your government. The La Costa Country Club Crowd is running your city, (and the NCT's too for that fact). We really need another newspaper or TV reporting station just for North County too so the truth can get out. (Sorry NCT's it's not meant to be an insult, but we really need a little competition in the news arena around here). It would be good for you too.

To get out wrote on Jan 4, 2008 11:12 AM:Do you need a comprehensive reading class, p.u. and Carlsbad Resident didn't say the building caused the sewage spill, they said that all the building that is going on is what stinks. Read slowly if you must to understand. Let's fix what we already have before we build any more.

FTM wrote on Jan 4, 2008 5:05 PM:I guess this is just going over thier heads out there.

Legacy of Mayor Bud wrote on Jan 5, 2008 5:19 PM:This is another example of the city of Carlsbad being more focused on building and growth, and not on properly maintaining its existing water and sewer infrastructures. Look at what the city of San Diego is now experiencing ... that is the future of Carlsbad.

Aw, c'mon! wrote on Jan 5, 2008 5:21 PM:What's a little sewage among friends?!

FTM wrote on Jan 23, 2008 2:30 PM:Yeah, among friends - your last sewage "accident" took out the entire Lagoon between Oceanside and Carlsbad. The people in Oceanside loved paying to clean that one up. Carlsbad got fined, but Oceanside still had to clean thier side of the lagoon, and no one in Oceanside complained. You guys could be better neighbors.
