  • Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Larry N. Pennington, son of Susan M. and Larry N. Pennington of Poway, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in

    Cape May, N.J. Pennington is a 2007 graduate of Poway High School.

  • Gladys A. Balderas graduated from Officer Candidate School Phase III training at North Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army National Guard. Balderas was formerly assigned to the 223rd Infantry Regiment, California Army National Guard, San Luis Obispo. She has served in the military for nine years.

    Balderas is the daughter of Victor and Alcira Villa of Wildomar. The lieutenant graduated in 1994 from El Camino High School. She attended National University in La Jolla, where she received a bachelor's degree in 2004 and a master's degree in 2007.

  • Matthew O. Sioco graduated from Officer Candidate School Phase III training at North Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army National Guard.

    Sioco is an aviation officer with the California Army National Guard, San Luis Obispo, and has 10 years of military service. He is the son of Henry C. and Lucy O. Sioco of Oceanside. The lieutenant received a bachelor's degree in 2005 from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Camp Pendleton.

  • Army Pvt. Anthony N. Jumangit has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Coleen Jumangit of Vista, and is a 2005 graduate of San Marcos High School.
