State of the Economy Luncheon scheduled

The Escondido Chamber of Commerce's State of the Economy Luncheon will be held from noon to 1:30 Jan. 16 at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, 340 N Escondido Blvd.

The guest speaker will be Gary C. Zimmerman, senior economist of the Twelfth Federal Reserve District, San Francisco. North County Times business columnist and television and radio commentator George Chamberlin will be the master of ceremonies.

San Diego County Economic Roundtable planned

The 24th annual San Diego County Economic Roundtable will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 25 at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice, University of San Diego, 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego. Admission is free.

The latest projections on San Diego's financial stability, business opportunities, job outlook and commercial and residential real estate numbers will be presented.

UCSD $50K Entrepreneurship Competition to host kick-off event

The UC San Diego $50K Entrepreneurship Competition will present its Winter Executive Summary Competition kick-off event and $1,000 Business Concept Award Ceremony from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 14 at the UCSD Price Center Ballroom B, 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla. Camille Sobrian, chief operating officer of Connect, will be the keynote speaker. Admission is free.

The $50K Entrepreneurship Competition is a multi-disciplinary UCSD student organization consisting of undergraduate and graduate students designed to foster technological innovation and entrepreneurial education.

Professional organizers group to meet

The National Association of Professional Organizers, San Diego Chapter, will meet Jan. 14 at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, 4126 Executive Drive, La Jolla.

A prospective organizer meeting will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. The facilitator will be Jan Davis of Clutterbye, and the speaker will be Jana Hartwell of Sensible Organizing. Chambers team up for 5-Minute Networking event

The Oceanside and Vista chambers of commerce will host a joint 5-Minute Networking event from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Jan. 23 at the Shadowridge Country Club, 1980 Gateway Drive, Vista.

Fusion Factor Corp., a San Marcos-based software consulting firm, will host a visit by the Microsoft Across America Truck from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 23 and 24 in the parking lot of Old California Restaurant Row in San Marcos.

The truck is fully loaded with technologies from Microsoft, Cisco, HP and Intel, offering visitors a hands-on interactive experience with a variety of products.

Flood insurance courses offered for agents

The National Flood Insurance Program will offer basic flood insurance courses for insurance agents in February in North County and Temecula. The courses meet California Department of Insurance requirements and provide three continuing education units.

The first class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Mary Phillips Senior Center, 41845 Sixth St., Temecula. Check-in is at 12:15 p.m.

Classes in the following North County communities will have a check-in time of 8:15 a.m. and instruction from 9 a.m. to noon:

- Feb. 5, Carlsbad City Council Chambers, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive.

Emerging Energy Technology Summit scheduled

UC Santa Barbara's Technology Management Program will hold its third annual Emerging Energy Technology Summit on Feb. 8 and 9.

Energy technology leaders from California, China and British Columbia will showcase new technologies and address partnership lessons learned in applying them in the marketplace. Participants also will have the opportunity to network with energy entrepreneurs, corporate business development experts, investors and government policymakers.

Bank profits fall slightly; shares gain 7 percent

TEMECULA ---- The parent company of Mission Oaks National Bank said it earned $2.1 million, or 50 cents a share, down from a record $2.5 million, or 58 cents a share, in 2006. In a written statement Wednesday morning, bank President Gary Votapka attributed the growth to asset growth and good loan quality.

Assets held by the bank reached $212 million, including $166 million in net loans, as of Dec. 31.

Shares of Mission Oaks Bancorp, traded as MOKB on an over-the-counter exchange, gained 55 cents, or 6.5 percent, to close at $9.

The bank has two branches in Temecula and a third in Ontario.
