Terrilyn Quick, an art teacher at Bear Valley Middle School in Escondido, recently invited author Marlene Balbach and illustrator Laura Glusha to make a presentation to her class. The two taught students how an artist and illustrator must work together to complete a book. Balbach is the grandparent of a Bear Valley student, and recently completed her first book, “PT's Big Surprise.”
Top, Glusha shows students some of her first drawings for the book and how they evolved.
Center, Balbach holds up a doll representing the main character in her book, “PT.”
Bottom, student David Murguia studies Glusha's drawings. For more information about the book, go to http://www.ptthinker.com.

I, too, am a teacher of middle school students. In addition, one of my very dearest friends is named Terrilyn Quick! She was a middle school teacher until a few years ago when she decided to follow a dream and become an airline flight attendent. On June 2, she will have her 60th birthday. Her other close friends and I would like to do something special for her and hope that you might help us. Since she often travels to LA, would you consider meeting her...for tea, lunch or dinner, a drink? We found another Terri Quick in Omaha last year, and we all went out for dinner. It was much fun. If this is something you might consider, please let me know, so we can work out the arrangements. Please know we are not crazies, we just enjoy doing different things for our dear friends. Thanks so much. Jacquie ...
