SAN DIEGO ---- A former UC San Diego employee accused of threatening to blow up buildings on campus if research animals weren't released pleaded not guilty Thursday to five federal charges.
Richard Sills, 54, of Encinitas, is charged with three counts of providing false information and hoaxes and two counts of making bomb threats by telephone.
Sills, who was a temporary employee in the UCSD Biomedical Science Building, allegedly made two phone calls and sent a letter to the university claiming there was a bomb on the campus on Dec. 5, according to an indictment issued Wednesday by a federal grand jury.
Magistrate Judge Louisa Porter scheduled a March 3 motions and trial-setting hearing before U.S. District Court Judge Larry Burns.
