Bolts complete staff

The Chargers filled their final coaching staff vacancy on Thursday by hiring Ollie Wilson as running backs coach.

Wilson, 56, signed a two-year contract with the Chargers.

The Chargers also agreed to two-year contracts with three holdover assistants: special teams coach Steve Crosby, quarterbacks coach John Ramsdell and offensive line coach Hal Hunter.

Wilson has spent 17 seasons as an NFL assistant, including a five-year stint with the Chargers from 1997-2001. He has served two stints with the Atlanta Falcons, spending the last six seasons with the Falcons and also working for Atlanta from 1991-96.

In 2001, Wilson worked with current Chargers coach Norv Turner when Turner was the team's offensive coordinator. That was also star running back LaDainian Tomlinson's rookie season.

Wilson replaces Matt Simon, who was fired by the Chargers on Tuesday.

I wonder if Cameron, if he had to do it again, would have stayed with the Chargers. Granted, he was just hired to be the Ravens offensive coordinator, but I can't help but think that he probably should have stayed with the Chargers instead of going to the Dolphins as the head coach and then being let go after one season.

He was in the organization under Kevin Gilbride, June Jones and Mike Riley from 1997-2001. The won/loss record for the Chargers during those years was 23-57 (.288 pct).

Ollie Wilson’s two different tenures and win/loss record with the Falcons are as follows:

First time: 1991-1996: Jerry Glanville, 1991-1993 28-38 (.424 pct). June Jones, 1994-1996 19-29 (.396 pct).

Second time: 2002-2007: 2002-’03 = 5-11 (.313); ’04 = 11-5 (.688); ’05 = 8-8 (.500); ’06 = 7-9 (.438); ’07 = 4-12 (.250)

Although Ollie Wilson was present during LT’s rookie season, don’t know how much Wilson had a hand in honing LT into the dynamic back currently is. We’ll see. Let’s hope the Bolts can maintain their continuity
