MURRIETA ---- A Temecula couple have been arrested in connection with the stabbing last week of a woman in her Murrieta home, police said Friday.
The man police allege stabbed the woman, Craig Roehrs, 38, was arrested Thursday afternoon at a remote vacation home near Lake Mead in Nevada, said Murrieta police Lt. Dennis Vrooman. Murrieta police got in touch with a Nevada fugitive task force that then arrested Roehrs, who remains in custody in that state in lieu of $1 million bail, awaiting extradition back to California, the lieutenant said.
Roehrs is accused of stabbing the 36-year-old cousin of his estranged wife on Jan. 17 at a home in the 37000 block of Elderberry Street, police said.
"He knew his estranged wife was there," Vrooman said, "and her cousin tried to intervene and was stabbed."
The victim was stabbed once and hospitalized, authorities have said. Doctors initially thought they might have to remove her spleen but didn't, Vrooman said, and she has been released from the hospital.
Murrieta detectives were led to Roehrs by his girlfriend, Cyrene Diana Jaggar-Wise, 46, who came to the Murrieta Police Station on Tuesday afternoon and turned herself in to officers, Vrooman said.
"She knew from other people that she was wanted for questioning in this case," Vrooman said.
Jaggar-Wise told detectives that Roehrs called her the night of the stabbing and she picked him up in the area of Keller and Antelope roads, the lieutenant said.
"He originally asked to be taken to Mexico, but she refused," Vrooman said. Instead, she told detectives, she agreed to take him to a vacation home she is familiar with in Overton, Nev.
Jaggar-Wise was arrested on a warrant alleging that she was an accessory to a felony and she was released Friday after posting bail, according to jail records.
