Mothers group taking registrations
BONSALL - Mothers of Preschoolers, or MOPs, is taking registrations for the new semester. The group is open to mothers and children, who are younger than 6, and meets from 9 to 11:30 a.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at Riverview Evangelical Free Church, 4980 Sweetgrass Lane. Bonsall Woman's Club to meet
BONSALL - The Bonsall Woman's Club will meet Feb. 7 at the San Luis Rey Golf Resort. Social hour will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the meeting at 10 and a luncheon honoring club presidents. Lunch reservations are due by Feb. 4. Cost is $12. Make checks payable to BWC and send to Carol Jungerfeld, P.O. Box. 294, Bonsall, CA 92003.

Fallbrook pageant deadline is Friday
FALLBROOK - Soroptimist International of Fallbrook, the nonprofit organization that sponsors the annual Miss Fallbrook pageant, has announced it will accept contestants through Friday. The pageant will take place March 29.
Miss Fallbrook serves as an ambassador at numerous community events and participates in other events countywide. Miss Fallbrook 2008 will receive a $500 cash award and many other valuable prizes. The current Miss Fallbrook is Kate Derr.
An entrant should have excellent communication and social skills. Judging includes sportswear, evening gown and interview segments; there are no bathing suit or talent segments.
Contestants must reside in Fallbrook, Bonsall, Rainbow, Pala or DeLuz. The participant age range is between 17 (and a senior in high school) and 24 by the date of the pageant. She must be single and never have had a child.

Amateur radio club to meet
FALLBROOK - The Fallbrook Amateur Radio Club will meet at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Roy Noon Meeting Hall, 231 E. Hawthorne St. James Beebe, KI6GZE, will discuss the Rice fire. Beebe was manning a Rainbow engine during the early stages of the fire and will present an account of the fire. Information: http://www.fallbrookarc.org.
Art association plans reception
FALLBROOK - The Fallbrook Art Association's board of directors and chairmen of committees will host a reception to honor its volunteers from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Brandon Gallery's Etcetera Gallery. Refreshments will be served at the free event.
Volunteers who will be honored are Patricia Hartman, current president and editor of the association's monthly newsletter; Joan Nied, first vice-president, co-editor of the newsletter and chairman of demonstrations and workshops; Shirley Williams, second vice-president, former chairwoman of membership and current co-chairwoman of Art Assist; Beth Taft, co-chairwoman of Art Assist; Patricia Mangels, secretary; Janice Jones, treasurer and a past president; Karen Langer Baker, publicity; Carol Reardon and William Riedell, directors-at-large and former presidents; Carol Zaleski, director-at-large and former co-chairwoman of Art Assist; Penny Fedorchak, former co-chairwoman of Art Assist; Kathleen Pickett, chairwoman of library shows; Margaret and Jon Harwood, newsletter mailing; Carol Reardon, a former president and current chairwoman of the Tuesday plein air painting group; Shirley Calvert, co-chairwoman of the Wednesday plein air painting group and the refreshments committee; and Brigitta Fox, former chairwoman of the association's library and currently co-chairwoman of the refreshments
committee.
The artwork of these volunteers represents all styles, media and levels of professionalism. Many of the participants have sold their work and won numerous awards in juried shows, while a few are just beginning their careers.
The Fallbrook Art Association welcomes everyone who is interested in the visual arts, even if they don't create anything themselves. The group holds monthly meetings, as well as Sunday workshops several times a month.
