LIFE at MiraCosta to meet

OCEANSIDE - LIFE at MiraCosta, a lifelong learning group, will meet at 1 p.m. Friday in Room 1068 at MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Drive. Tracy Williams, MiraCosta's theater director, will give tempting tidbits of the forthcoming musical comedy "Once Upon A Mattress."

Pet vaccination clinic set for Saturday

OCEANSIDE - North County Humane Society will hold a low cost pet vaccination clinic from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at 2905 San Luis Rey Road. Tri-City Computer Club to meet

Senior patrol seeks volunteers

Acupuncture class offered

Scratch art classes set

Angel's Depot seeks volunteers

VISTA - The Angel's Depot provides free food boxes for senior citizens who live on a monthly income of $900 or less. Opera Previews to expand

CARLSBAD - The Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office will expand the San Diego Opera's lecture series, "Opera Previews," by musicologist Ron Shaheen, with two additional presentations, the Carlsbad to Karlovy Vary Vocal Competition and a film screening of two classics, "What's Opera, Doc?" with Bugs Bunny and "A Night at the Opera" with the Marx Brothers, with commentary by North County Times columnist Ann Zivotsky. Programs will be held at 10 a.m. Saturdays in Schulman Auditorium, Carlsbad City Library, 1775 Dove Lane at El Camino Real.

Programs include: Feb. 16, opera preview of Donizetti's "Mary, Queen of Scots"; Feb. 23, "Carlsbad to Karlovy Vary" Vocal Competition; March 1, "What's Opera, Doc?" and "A Night at the Opera" movie screening, Opera Previews Plus joins with the fifteenth annual Multicultural Arts Festival to screen two classic comedies for family audiences; March 22, opera preview, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci; April 12, opera preview of Verdi's grand opera, Aida; and May 3, opera preview of Bizet's "The Pearl Fishers." Monthly bird count at Batiquitos Lagoon

CARLSBAD - The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation will offer the easy, docent-led bird count walk at 7:30 a.m. every second Friday of the month starting from the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation Nature Center parking lot, located at the end of Gabbiano Lane. The purpose of this walk is to count the birds both seen and heard at the lagoon and report the numbers to the Audubon Society. CARLSBAD - The Carlsbad Senior Center will host Diane Beach speaking about "Early Memory Loss" from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 26. Beach will present a unique set of challenges and opportunities for individuals with memory deficits and their families, including hands-on tools for successful living in the midst of early memory loss. This presentation will cover recent research/medication trends; enhancing daily living by utilizing community resources; maintaining social and family relationships; and identifying stress management exercises. College to offer anger management course

CPR classes offered

ENCINITAS - The Encinitas Fire Department will offer CPR classes from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 7, April 4 and June 13 at Fire Station No. 5, 540 Balour Drive. There is an administrative fee of $6 per student to cover the cost of the CPR certification card and students are asked to bring a self addressed, stamped envelope with them to class. Why composting makes a happy garden

Consciousness lecture series to begin

LA JOLLA - The World Healer Institute, a local nonprofit corporation, will present a lecture on consciousness by Chief Executive Officer and founder Joseph Costa, Ph.D. at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Sheraton La Jolla Hotel.

Costa, a world-renowned lecturer and author and former Solana Beach resident, is a nominee for The Templeton Prize for progress toward research or discoveries about spiritual realities.

This is the first in a series of lectures titled "Evolution of Consciousness." Topics will include consciousness and its changes, health in the human body, self-destruction, science and oneness.
