Gates to play in Pro Bowl
By: MIKE SULLIVAN | ∞
Chargers tight end Antonio Gates plans to play in the Pro Bowl, a team official said Friday.
Gates dislocated his left big toe in the wild-card game against the Tennessee Titans on Jan. 6 and played in ensuing playoff games against Indianapolis and New England despite excruciating pain.
The Pro Bowl is Feb. 10, meaning it will be 21 days between games for Gates, who is making his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl appearance.

The Pro Bowl is so anti-climatic after all the Super Bowl hype that it seems like a waste of time. It has no meaning except for inter-conference bragging rights...and so what. It's just another paycheck and a revnenue stream for the NFL.
Here's an idea. How about canning the Pro-Bowl (like the NFL did with the College All-Stars vs the Super Bowl Champs) and creating a consolation bowl game between the losers of the AFC and NFC Championship games? (ie; Green Bay vs San Diego) This way it would determine 3rd and 4th place finishers.
It would give another marquee match up and a TV rating boost. Plus, I'm sure it would please the fans who'd like just one more game for their favorite team in post seaason play. Just a thought.

The Grinch wrote on Feb 3, 2008 1:25 AM:They used to have it back when the Superbowl first started. In the Sunday before the Superbowl the runner-ups would play a game instead we are left with a football void for a week. I think they should being it back as well. they could have it in the same sight as the superbowl. That way the week before the championship games fans of all four teams can book a trip and work out the details Monday after the championship games. Although our team would have been hampered this year with injuries it would have been a good game to see us take on the Packers in a rematch.

being from hawaii and meeting all those great players throughout history... yes all of them from montana and marino to brady and manning... not to mention all the other great ones... the probowl is worth having.
so here's an idea to all of you... learn to save some cash for a change and fly out to hawaii get a ticket for the game and see for yourselves...
after all... if anyone that can name an all star game that has more meaning than the championship game/series... then that sport needs to be disbanned. so give the players a reward and let them have their fun in hawaii... afterall... who cares about who finishes 3rd and 4th?... or even 2nd...
