Temecula Library offers programs

TEMECULA ---- The artist who created the fused glass artwork at the entrance of the Temecula Public Library will discuss the piece at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at the library.

Artist Vikki Sylva will lead a free lecture and demonstration on how "Imagination" was created, from conception to finished piece.

Other events this month at the Temecula Public Library, 30600 Pauba Road:

Adult Programs:

- Temecula Library Book Discussion Group, 1 to 3 p.m. Monday. Discussed will be "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen, hosted by Dawn Larson and "Grandpa Doc Stories & Other Tales from Bryon" by Valerie Sokol, hosted by Sokol.

- Parenting seminar, 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 25. "Time out for Little Ones: Discipline That Works." Parents Empowering Amazing Kids is a series of seminars that address importance topics for parents.

- La Hora del Cuento (Spanish/English), 4 p.m. today, and Feb, 15 and 22. Stories, fingerplays and songs in Spanish and English. Ages 3-8.

- Baby Sign Storytime, 10 and 11 a.m. Tuesday and Feb. 19. An interactive storytime for babies that incorporates sign language and stories. Babies to 23 months

- Preschool Storytime, 10 and 11 a.m. Wednesday and Feb. 20. An independent group activity designed to introduce preschool age children to story telling and to build a foundation for reading readiness. Ages 3 to 5.

- Toddler Storytime, 10 and 11 a.m., Thursday and Feb. 21. An on-the-lap storytime designed to introduce toddlers and their parents to stories, rhymes and activities that stimulate a toddler's developing vocabulary. Ages 24 to 35 months.

- Valentine Cookie Decorating, 4 p.m. Wednesday. Decorate a cookie for someone you love. Space is limited to 60 children. Requires advance registration. Ages 3 to 12

- African Women of Endeavor, 4 p.m. Feb. 27. Black history comes to life as actress Cece Antoinette presents African women who have shaped our lives. Ages 4 and up

Teen Programs

- Temecula Teen Library Council, 4 to 5 p.m. Feb. 28. Share opinions about the Teen Zone and make suggestions about what materials and programs the library offers teens. Ages 13 to 17

- Super Smash Bros. Melee Tournament, Saturday. Prizes will be awarded to the best players on Nintendo Gamecube or Wii.

- Basic Computer Class, Feb. 11. The class is designed for those interested in learning how to use a mouse, type letters, open and close documents and use Windows. Registration is limited. Call 600-6262.

- Basic Internet Class, Feb. 25. Learn how to use a Web browser and how to find things on the Internet. Teachers will demonstrate useful Web sites and show you how to get free e-mail accounts. Registration is limited, call 600-6262.

Family and Children's Programs

- Anime Club, 4 p.m. today. Discuss and review anime and help select books for the library. Ages 13 to 17

- Teen Advisory Board, 4 p.m. Tuesday. Assist in selecting DVDs, music CDs, books, magazines and graphic novels of interest to teens. Ages 13- to 17

- Teen Reads!, 4 p.m. Feb. 19. Book discussion book. Ages 13 to 17

- Mellman Idol, 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 25. Sing your heart out, no talent required. Ages 13 to 17
