Showing the Pro Bowl a little love

It might be the slowest week of the year for sports fans.

The Super Bowl is over, spring training hasn't quite arrived, March Madness is still weeks away and the NBA and NHL might as well not even exist until May. Why do you think Sports Illustrated started its swimsuit issue, anyway?

But if you're really having a tough time getting over the fact that football season is over, if you can't take one more minute of watching the grass grow, if you've completed every last chore on the honey-do list, there's always the Pro Bowl.

If you think NFL preseason games are bad, try sitting through three-plus hours of the Pro Bowl. At least players are fighting for jobs in the preseason. The Pro Bowl might as well be played without pads. This thing makes "Viva Laughlin" look like Emmy material.

So you can imagine my surprise to find that there is actually a fan site devoted to the Pro Bowl. And the Web master at www.probowlonline.com takes this exhibition seriously.

Cool stuff
< There are write-ups and rosters for every Pro Bowl since 1990. Unfortunately, I was really hoping to relive the great memories from the '88 game. Anybody have that one on video?

Check at the door
< No video highlights? Who wouldn't want to see some of the historic plays from past Pro Bowls?

< Some type of bio of the Web master is a must. Inquiring minds want to know about the person who holds the Pro Bowl in such high esteem.

The grade
Sure, 99.9 percent of the population could care less about the Pro Bowl ---- and that is being generous. But the site lives up to its billing as the No. 1 Pro Bowl fan site. Since I couldn't find any other Pro Bowl fan sites, who am I to argue? Give it four out of five mouses.

Staff writer Eric Breier is recording the Pro Bowl on his DVR, so please don't divulge the score if you see him. He can be reached at ebreier@nctimes.com.
