SAN YSIDRO -- A man suspected of smuggling people across the border was shot and wounded at a San Ysidro motel Wednesday in a confrontation with a U.S. Border Patrol agent, authorities said.
The shooting occurred at around 3:30 a.m. in room 232 at the Economy Inn on Via de San Ysidro, off Interstate 5, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.
Border Patrol officials said agents received a tip that illegal immigrants were being brought to room 232 and found two men inside the room. One of them was under bed covers and moving around suspiciously, as though he had a concealed gun, officials said.
An agent fired one shot, wounding the man in the leg, officials said.
The man was taken to Paradise Valley Hospital, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Border Patrol officials did not immediately say whether a gun was recovered.
Neither of the men found in the room are illegal immigrants but one is a known smuggler in the area, Border Patrol officials said.

Yeah right wrote on Feb 14, 2008 9:00 AM:The first thing that comes to my mind when there's "suspicious movement" is that they are "possibly hiding a gun." I mean, what else could a mexican be hiding right? Border patrol agents are a bunch of racist and uneducated animals.

NCT is just doing a balanced relaying of the stories that they have no real information on. Sure does a good job getting people fired up on the blogs though
To to Yeah wrote on Feb 14, 2008 12:44 PM:NCT does a wonderful job which is why they are having volunteers taking early retirement. Look around all of the newspapers and news media that tries to spin stories is losing not only subscribers but mega advertisment dollars.
Ron wrote on Feb 14, 2008 2:04 PM:Also in the paper today is the story concerning the Border Patrol finding a metal wire strung between two border fences in San Diego -- an apparent effort to inflict serious injury or even death to its agents. There is a war going on here and the Border Patrol has every right to defend themselves using every measure available to them, including deadly force.

Wayne wrote on Feb 14, 2008 10:09 PM:Moving around suspiciously as though he had a gun is good enough for me. BANG! Ask questions later. At least the BP Agent is alive to defend his actions. Some of you wouldn't like that too much, huh? Look what you mopes did to Ramos-Compean. As far as "Yeah right", you're an Angry Gus so stop treating this as a racist issue.
