Aztecs report: Today - at Wyoming
By: North County Times - | ∞
Tipoff: 6 p.m. at Arena Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo.
Records: San Diego State 16-9, 6-5 Mountain West Conference; Wyoming 10-14, 3-8
TV/Radio: the mtn/600 AM
At a glance: For the Aztecs, this looks like a golden opportunity to end a three-game losing streak and a string of five losses in seven games. Coach Steve Fisher was encouraged by his team's energy in a close road loss to Utah on Saturday, but that will be hard to sustain without a victory on which to hang its hat. ... The five 3-pointers that G D.J. Gay hit in the second half against the Utes was as many as he had drained in his previous eight games combined. ... After a brutal start, the eighth-place Cowboys have played better lately, winning four of their last seven games. G Brandon Ewing (17.2 points per game) is the second-leading scorer in the Mountain West. ... Wyoming is last in the conference in both turnover margin (minus-4.75) and scoring defense (72.6 ppg). ... The Aztecs enjoyed one of their most impressive wins of the season last month against Wyoming, frustrating the potent guard combination of Ewing and Brad Jones while scoring the game's first 19 points in a 70-43 victory at Cox Arena. ... The Aztecs are 5-22 all-time at Wyoming, though three of those wins have come in the
last six seasons.
