TEMECULA -- The Ophelia Theatre Group will perform at the American Association of University Women of Temecula Valley's "A Night at the Theater" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Temecula United Methodist Church.
The variety show will include an Irish dancer and a pianist.
The show is the group's annual fundraiser to send middle school girls to the Tech Trek science summer camp at University of San Diego.

Dakota Club to meet
MENIFEE -- The Dakota Club will hear about the U.S. Border Patrol when it meets at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
The club is open to people who have lived in either of the Dakotas, with the purpose of promoting friendship and goodwill among Dakotans.

Rose society to gather
TEMECULA -- Frank Brines, a certified American Rose Society consulting rosarian, will talk about rose propagation when the Temecula Valley Rose Society meets at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at Temecula Public Library.
Brines has received many awards in rose exhibitions for specimens and arrangements. A complimentary light lunch will be available.

Swing dance set for seniors
TEMECULA -- With or without a date, senior citizens can swing dance the night away Friday.
A Valentine's Senior Swing Dance is scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m. at the Temecula Community Center, 28816 Pujol St. Sam DeFazio's "Good Time Band" will perform and refreshments will be served. The cost is $7 per person.

Marine Corps League to gather

History group offers library
LAKE ELSINORE -- The Lake Elsinore Historical Society opens its museum and research library to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and 1 to 3 p.m. the fourth Sunday of the month.
The facility also schedules visitation from school groups, clubs and associations.

Elks Ladies plan dance
LAKE ELSINORE -- The Elk Ladies will host a dance from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday featuring Bob Patocka.

Women's club plans Oscar night
TEMECULA -- The Temecula Valley Woman's Club will host an Oscar viewing party to benefit its community charity funds at 4 p.m. Sunday at Baily's Restaurant.
There will be a red carpet, paparazzi and hors d'oeuvres. The cost is $45.
Guests may buy entry into a contest to pick the winners of the Academy Awards, with half the pot going to the winner and half to the club.

Rocket Group plans launch
TEMECULA -- The Temecula Rocket Group will hold its monthly rocket launch from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at Temecula Middle School.
At the launch, the club will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the launch of America's first satellite, Explorer 1, on Jan. 31, 1958. Members built a 1/28th scale model of the Jupiter C rocket that placed Explorer 1 into orbit. The launch was rained out in January.

Caregiver group to meet
CANYON LAKE -- Caregiver Connection Support Group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Canyon Lake Community Church.

Radio club to gather
TEMECULA -- The Golden Triangle Amateur Radio Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Rancho California Water District.
Bob Grimmick will talk about his Dxpedition to Guinea Bissau, an African location north of the equator known as Bubaque Island in the Bijagos Archipelago. It is a group of 18 major islands in the Atlantic Ocean and ranked in the latest "most wanted" for ham radio contacts.
Dxpedition is the term used when amateur radio operators visit exotic locations.

American's Creed topic for DAR
MURRIETA -- The American's Creed will be the topic when the Daughters of the American Revolution, Luiseno Chapter, meets at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sizzler restaurant.
The speaker will be Joedy Adams of San Diego. She is a member of the Linares Chapter of DAR and her grandfather, William Tyler Page, wrote The American's Creed.
Everyone is invited to the luncheon, especially those who are interested in tracing their heritage to ancestors of the American Revolution. Applications and instructions for documenting lineage are available at the luncheon.

Women's club plans trip
LAKE ELSINORE -- The Elsinore Woman's Club is hosting a public bus trip to the San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino on March 10.

TEMECULA -- The Temecula Valley Woman's Club is planning a trip to Mexico to benefit Michelle's Place, a breast cancer resource center.
"Fiesta at Sea" cruisers will set sail March 14 on Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Seas, returning March 17. Cabins begin at $329 per person.

Scouts to help fight childhood cancer
WILDOMAR -- Wildomar Cub Scout Pack 332 will host a lemonade stand in memory of children who have suffered from cancer in conjunction with the Wildomar Parks annual Egg Hunt starting at 10 a.m. March 15 at Marna O'Brien Park.
The event -- known as Alex's Lemonade Stand -- will include lemonade pins and a memory board in which attendees will be encouraged to post the names of children they know who have been affected by cancer.
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation grew from a young cancer patient's front yard lemonade stand to a nationwide fundraising movement to find a cure for childhood cancer. Since Alexandra "Alex" Scott, who died in 2004, set up her first lemonade stand at the age of 4, more than $17 million has been raised toward fulfilling her dream of finding a cure for all childhood cancer.

Rotary Rumble set for May
LAKE ELSINORE -- Motorcycle enthusiasts will participate in the second annual Lake Elsinore Rotary Rumble at 10:30 a.m. May 17.
The ride starts at 520 Chaney St., Lake Elsinore and will tour the Santa Rosa area, ending at Quaid Temecula Harley Davidson for lunch and drawings. Many prizes will be offered, including a 2008 Harley Davidson Roadking motorcycle valued at $22,611.
Tickets for the drawing are $20 and are available at the Lake Elsinore Chamber of Commerce or from any Lake Elsinore Rotary member.

Library glasswork topic of talk
TEMECULA -- The artist who created the fused glass artwork at the entrance of the Temecula Public Library will discuss the piece at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the library.

Murrieta holding photo contest
MURRIETA -- The city is hosting a photo contest for original pictures that "capture the spirit of Murrieta."
Entries can be submitted in six categories: nature, architecture, city activities, artistic expression, black and white and historic, officials said in a news release. Photos must be taken within the city and must be submitted by 4 p.m. Feb. 29 at the Murrieta Public Library, 8 Town Square at Adams Avenue and Kalmia Street.
Winners will be announced at the March 22 grand opening of the new City Hall, officials said. The winning photos will be blown up and framed and will decorate the new City Hall walls, the release states.

United Way seeks allocations committee
United Way of Inland Valleys is seeking volunteers to evaluate and recommend funding to its partner agencies.
Volunteers are put in teams of five to 10 people and each group will visit and review two or three agencies. Agency visits will take place in March and April.
There is a mandatory volunteer meeting March 4 in Riverside.

Animal Friends plan golf tourney
LAKE ELSINORE --Animal Friends of the Valleys is seeking players and sponsors for its Fore the Animals Golf Tournament March 28 at the SCGA Golf course in Murrieta.
Tee time will be 9 a.m. for the four-person scramble. The cost is $150 per golfer or $500 for a foursome. "Lunch only" costs $20.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the animals at the shelter.

NAMI to offer family course
TEMECULA -- The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill's Family-to-Family Education Program will be offered in Temecula beginning next month.
The program consists of 12 weekly classes for family members and caregivers of individuals with serious mental illnesses. Class subject matter includes coping skills, problem-solving and communication skills.
There is no charge for the class, but space is limited and registration is required.

Galway Downs to host competition
TEMECULA -- Riders from seven nations are expected to compete in the Galway Downs International Horse Trials on March 28 to 30.
The competition will be the first Pacific League event in the U.S. Eventing Association's yearlong Gold Cup Series.
Approximately 75 horses are expected to compete, representing the United States, Canada, Mexico, France, Great Britain, Germany and South Africa.

Museum features citrus exhibit
TEMECULA -- An exhibit called "Memoirs of a Citrus Grower" will continue through April 6 at the Temecula Valley Museum.
For more than 100 years, citrus has been a source of wealth and prosperity in Riverside County. The exhibit will be a journey into the life and times of a local citrus grower, taking visitors back to a time when citrus groves were abundant in the region.
A gallery talk, "The Story of Work and Workers in the California Citrus Industry," will be held at 6 p.m. March 13. Vincent Moses, the former director of Riverside Metropolitan Museum, will present stories of the life and work of farmworkers in California's citrus industry.
The museum is in Sam Hicks Monument Park, 28314 Mercedes St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. A donation of $2 per person is requested.
