Concert to benefit Vietnam veterans memorial

CARLSBAD ---- A concert featuring The Johnny Vernazza Band will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday to benefit the North County Vietnam Veterans Memorial.Ý

The memorial, across from the Army-Navy Academy on Highway 101, is nearing completion. The five-year project was started in 2003 by students in Jack Frazier's world history classes at Carlsbad High School. The memorial honors 133 North County men who served their country in the conflict.

The concert will be held at Carlsbad High School's Cultural Arts Center, 3557 Monroe St.

Johnny Vernazza has worked with B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Greg Allman, Elvin Bishop, the Marshall Tucker Band, Carlos Santana and many more performers. His blues and slide guitar are featured on Elvin Bishop's hit single, "Fooled Around and Fell in Love."

Thank you...... wrote on Mar 14, 2008 4:07 PM:to those that served, even though no one agreed with the war in Vietnam. It's just like our current situation, you may not agree with the war, but at least let our troops know you care and appreciate their service and bravery. They deserve the utmost respect..........my dad was in the reserves during Vietnam and thankfully was never sent overseas, but I can only imagine how he felt, as well as the young men/women right now who are in the service.....it must be frightening.......
