SAN DIEGO -- A 2,880-bed private prison has been proposed on about 40 acres in the Otay Mesa area of San Diego County.
Nashville, Tenn.-based Corrections Corp. of America has filed applications with the county to build a "secure detention facility" in the rural community southeast of San Diego near the U.S.Mexico border.
The firm already operates a smaller facility in the area for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
