Staff photo Jamie Scott Lytle Chargers offensive tackle Jeromey Clary's 2007 earnings nearly doubled on Tuesday as he was one of 17 NFL players awarded upwards of $250,000 through the league's "performance-based pay" system.
Clary, who started the final six games of the 2007 season, was awarded $253,015 through the complex system that measures every player in the league's playing time against his compensation.
The system is designed to reward lower-salaried players. Clary had a base salary of $285,000 last season and total compensation of $291,000.
Pittsburgh offensive tackle Willie Colon was the only player to receive more than $300,000 in additional pay. Colon was awarded $309,534.
