SAN MARCOS----A family reported that on Friday night four men with guns broke into their home, tied them up and made off with jewelry and an SUV, a Sheriff's Department's sergeant said.

Shortly before 11 p.m., deputies at the San Marcos Sheriff's Station got a call from a 15-year-old girl saying her parents were being robbed in their home at 774 Avenida Cordoniz, Sgt. Kelly Stuart said. When deputies arrived, the suspects were gone and the victims reported that four men had come in, led them into the garage at gunpoint and tied them up, Stuart said. The suspects, described only as Hispanic males with at least two handguns, took a large amount of jewelry from the house and fled in the couple's 2004 white Toyota Sequoia, California license plate 5GEZ292.

The husband was able to get free and follow the suspects for a short distance before losing them on Highway 78, Stuart said. San Macros Sheriff's detectives are continuing the investigation.

Educate at a young age wrote on May 3, 2008 10:47 PM:What do you expect, their absentee parents did not direct them down the path of righteousnes. An example must be made of these hoodlums to deteour other would be criminals. The Mission beach home invasion rapists will never be free again They will never know the warm embrace of a woman ever again. Why does the violent youth of today continue to do these horrible crimes when one after another gets sent to prison ? We must force the youths to learn there are consequences for these evil choices.

joe wrote on May 4, 2008 12:10 AM:There were helicopters and Sheriffs around this area on Saturday morning around 8am. If this incident occured Friday night at 11pm, why so late?

Now.... wrote on May 4, 2008 6:22 AM:tell me that I shouldn't be able to have a gun in my home.....I am sure these poor kids are just a product of the evil American society. We should ask them how they feel....shouldn't we!

CrimeHater wrote on May 4, 2008 6:51 AM: These criminals need to be caught, convicted and put away for life.

Neighbor wrote on May 4, 2008 8:39 AM:First off, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family. What a horrible experience. I hope they lean on friends to get them through this tough time. Secondly, crime, loitering, and vandalizism are all rising in this area. We need to ask local law enforcement for more support. Additionally, we as neighbors need to step up our vigilance – and look out for each other. Crimes occur during the day, or early evening, and neighbors choose not to get involved. We need to help our neighbors out, and send a sign to those who think this area is a target – that “we are watching”.

For Joe wrote on May 4, 2008 9:00 AM:Joe...the helicopter in the area at 8 A.M. was not "late," it was there for a shooting in the area. Completely unrelated.

Oliver wrote on May 4, 2008 9:37 AM:i live nearby, some neighbors have probably noticed my beat up, lifted, old toyota 4runner obnoxiously roaring round. i've had things stolen out of my other truck at night last year. i did hear that helicopter saturday morning too before work.

C. Bronson wrote on May 4, 2008 9:42 AM:I agree with Neighbor this city needs a Vigilante presence The cops can`t be everywhere at once. A little deadly citizen justice & maybe the gangsters would move to LA

What wrote on May 4, 2008 10:53 AM:What's it gonna be Educate at a young age? First you say "An example must be made of these hoodlums to deteour other would be criminals." Giving the impression that you think that seeing other crooks sent to jail will keep potential crooks from commiting crime. Then you say "Why does the violent youth of today continue to do these horrible crimes when one after another gets sent to prison ?" So which is it?

Paul wrote on May 4, 2008 1:02 PM:What made them target this house?

Neighborhood watch joke wrote on May 4, 2008 1:35 PM:I agree that neighbors don't watch out for each other. On many streets, you never see anyone come or go, never wave hello, just seem hiding. Kids need watchful eyes and caring souls. Years ago we had block mothers and good n eighborhod watch organizations. What happened? No one has 'time' anymore? That needs to be changed and soon. Your home and family could be next.

Problem with watches.. wrote on May 5, 2008 8:40 AM:Bad guys have guns... good guys dont... The Sheriff does not want good guys to have guns, even though he knows bad guys already do.

hispanic wrote on May 5, 2008 10:45 AM:Jim....nice way of trying to get your racial remarks in. Not all hispanics are gangmembers and criminals. But I'm sure all caucasions are perfect, law-abidding citizens. Yeah right!!!

Bad Guys wrote on May 5, 2008 10:50 AM:The suspects, described only as Hispanic males - What a shock!!!

Suspicious wrote on May 5, 2008 11:49 PM:I think there has to be more to this story. How was the 15 yr. old able to call for help? They tied everyone up but her? And what sane person would chase a car with people who have guns? It just doesn't make sense to me. Too many unanswered questions. There hasn't been any follow up either. Has the vehicle been found? What about the robbers? Armed and dangerous? Why isn't there a better description of the robbers? Shouldn't we all be on the look out?

Neighbor wrote on May 6, 2008 3:53 PM:NC Times - where is the follow-up on this story. Many of us would like to know what has happened since the story broke.

Neighbors, think about what you can do to start making this neighborhood a better place to live. This will take everyone's effort. It is a shame to see comments that people do not know their neighbors, don't wave, drive too fast, etc. Sante Fe Hills needs to be an oasis for our children and for our families. What will you do?
