SAN MARCOS: Fundraiser to benefit Eveland family

SAN MARCOS ---- Seriously injured Mission Hills High School football player Scott Eveland and his family will be the beneficiaries of a basketball-tournament fundraiser to be held Saturday at the San Marcos Boys & Girls Club.

Members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Cal State San Marcos will face off against each other in a series of basketball games at the event, to be held from noon to 3 p.m. The public is invited to watch the games at a cost of $5 per person.

Scott Eveland was a linebacker on the high school's football team when he staggered off the field and collapsed on the sideline early in the second quarter of a varsity home game on Sept. 14. Now 18, he is still recovering from a brain injury.

Eveland's parents have been fighting to get their insurance company to continue covering the cost of their son's care in a rehabilitation hospital.

The Boys & Girls Club is at 1 Positive Place, on Pico Avenue between San Marcos Boulevard and Mission Road.

What has occured is a heightened awareness of policies regarding ambulances and personel on the sidelines
of High School football games. This may reduce the chances of another family having to live through the nightmare that the Eveland's have had to endure.

The news guy who was demanding we let him film Scotty as he went into the theatre was an ass, though. I was hurt to see he cared about nothing and nobody except for getting the story for himself. Shame on you. If I knew your name, I would make it known to everyone how pigheaded you are, Mr. News Man!
