ESCONDIDO: Host families sought for foreign exchange students

ESCONDIDO ---- A nonprofit organization that brings foreign exchange students to the United States for educational and cultural visits is seeking families willing to host in their homes at least one Chinese teen for four weeks this summer.
Sandy Williams, coordinator of the search for temporary homes on behalf of Cultural Homestay International, said Thursday that 30 young people from the Chinese town Chong Qing will arrive in the area July 16.
The group of 15- to 17-year-olds will stay through Aug. 13, she said.
All of the students speak English, Williams said.
Host families will provide the students with their own beds, daily meals and transportation to a local learning center each weekday morning. The students will participate in outings arranged by the nonprofit organization each weekday afternoon.
Evenings and weekends will be spent with the host families, who are encouraged to include the guests in the families' normal activities, Williams said. Host families receive no financial compensation, but the program enriches the participants' lives, she said.
Call Williams at (760) 741-9901 or (760) 612-5218 for more information.
