ESCONDIDO ---- More than 200 classic cars and roadsters will roll into Grape Day Park on Saturday for the seventh annual American Heritage Car Show, sponsored by the Escondido History Center.

The annual event showcases pre-1974 antique cars, customs, classics, muscle cars and hot rods in the shaded park between Escondido City Hall and the Escondido History Center complex at 321 N. Broadway.

Running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, the show will feature collector cars as well as new cars displayed by show co-sponsors Mercedes-Benz of Escondido and Toyota of Escondido. Trophies will be handed out in 23 categories.

There will also be free tours of the history center, live music, raffles, vendor booths and a pancake breakfast.

Each year, the show honors an auto industry legend. Last year's honoree was two-time National Hot Rod Association champion Ted Cyr of Escondido. This year's honoree is drag-racer Harold Meziere, founder of Meziere Enterprises of Escondido (whch makes race car parts). Meziere gave up dragster racing more than 40 years ago, but he recently returned to the driver's seat, and at age 73, he's still regularly competing (and winning) against drivers one-third his age.

Free admission. Car exhibitors must pay $25. Register to (760) 743-8207.
