Noah wrote on May 26, 2008 7:40 PM:Kudos to Bob Parry and his PHS baseball program for finally getting the good press and recognition he/PHS deserves. Despite whining parents and a hit piece by the Union Tribune with no meat to it, Bob and his coaches and the whole school deserve to be applauded for being a terrific school with the best high school baseball program in California - go Titans!

Chris wrote on May 26, 2008 7:43 PM:Keegan Yuhl is the most dominant right handed sophmore pitcher I have seen in SD high school ball in years - he reminds me of a baby Roger Clemens - get a load of that body and how poised he is beating several top ranked teams this year, including my son's El Camino. Too bad for Palomar League opponents next two years - scary when this kid is a senior. Can you say first round pick? Hey Ballsley, you watching?!

Congrats from Nathan wrote on May 26, 2008 10:51 PM:Way to go to our scholar-athletes in North County. I must add though, that when my son's team played against Rancho Bernardo, many in the stands noticed RB's catcher, and his defensive abilities...too bad he didn't get a nod. Good job to Terrence Buchanan, Kevin Vance, Matt Cerda and David Ring.

Auntie Julie wrote on May 26, 2008 11:44 PM:Congratulations Brennan! It has been fun watching you play football and baseball these past 3-4 years!

Hopefully we can get up to watch you at Long Beach (congrats on the scholarship) and hopefully you'll have some games down this way.

Go Dirtbags!!

Jason wrote on May 27, 2008 12:18 AM:To Noah:

I've been around for awhile, but I didn't realize Poway has the best baseball program in the State.

You've got my attention. I guess I'll keep my eyes open and follow them a bit better.

Congratulations to all of the various athletes!!

Kathy wrote on May 27, 2008 9:21 AM:Congratulations to Aimee Bird and Daniel Giese! This is not the last time we'll be hearing about these two Tri-City Christian seniors in the sports world!

Lacrosse Mom wrote on May 27, 2008 9:23 AM:Hey NCT where are the Boys and Girls Lacrosse 2nd Teams??? All the other sports have those kids listed yet lacrosse gets left out. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the West and hundreds of kids in the county play year round. How about a little recognition for them? Post the 2nd teams please.

To Noah wrote on May 27, 2008 10:33 AM:To Noah and Chris:

I guess they don't teach humility out your way. Boasting isn't becoming. It is best to let their play speak for themselves.

Jason- I have never heard that Poway has the best baseball program in the state. You haven't missed anything. Yes they are a good program but best in the state-come on!

Prep baseball parent wrote on May 27, 2008 1:05 PM:How "high" does a player's stats have to be for their name to get on the "list"? He is already higher than most - so what kind of goal does he need to set his sights on to make next year's team? Who decides which players get on the "All North County Team"?

Jamel wrote on May 27, 2008 2:22 PM:To Prep baseball parent:

It looks to me like they tried to pick the "best all around player" for each position. Kids that are probably pretty well known amongst ALL of the coaches and players.

They are probably that kid that other kids know and don't like to face. Kids that are probably on most of the stats list etc. Kids heading off to play college ball etc

Just a thought.

To prep baseball parent wrote on May 27, 2008 2:26 PM:Unfortunately being higher than most doesn't get a player named to a "First team".

They really need to be higher than almost everyone else as far as stats and of course need the fielding and speed to go along with the hitting and pitching.

Goodluck to your son next year!

get a grip wrote on May 27, 2008 3:16 PM:Maybe Keegan should figure out how to beat RB before he is crowned the next Roger Clemens

Volleyball Fan wrote on May 27, 2008 4:54 PM:I think that some of the people that you put in for the all-north county teams for volleyball is a joke, its just weird for some of the people in all three of the teams and you make it look like you just went off of hype.

Politics wrote on May 27, 2008 5:14 PM:Does anyone know exactly how the teams are created? Is there a website where CIF explains the formula (process)to everyone? It sure seems to amaze me how several great players get overlooked time after time just because they don't play for a top team in the county. Please tell me that they use something besides the stats that the coaches track for voting. The same names and schools get really old after awhile.

Michelle wrote on May 27, 2008 5:40 PM:Not sure but this might just be the NCT "All North County teams".

Proud of All Student Athletes wrote on May 27, 2008 5:57 PM:Wouldn't it be nice -- just once -- to read strictly positive comments, instead of those from jealous parents demeaning the accomplishments of well-deserved athletes. Whatever happened to that old saying, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." Congratulations to all the student athletes - 1st Team, 2nd Team, and all those who played their hearts out all season!

Also Proud wrote on May 27, 2008 6:22 PM:Well said, Proud of All Student Athletes! Congratulations to all on your worthy accomplishments!

Politics wrote on May 27, 2008 8:42 PM:I don't take anything away from any athlete that is deserving of recognition. The system used needs to be revealed and improved as their is obvious favoritism. There are a number of athletes in baseball that didn't even get mentioned that pitched and hit much better than most of the 2nd team and they aren't listed as an honorable mention. It just makes me wonder how much politics goes in to this...

Deserving wrote on May 27, 2008 10:09 PM:To Politics: Although you say you don't take anything away from deserving athletes, that's exactly what you're doing by insinuating that "politics" and "favortism" are involved. This is not an "All CIF" selection; it's compiled by the North County Times and it's an honor to be named to any of these teams. If your athlete is that talented, he/she will have his/her day - No excuses and no politics! I agree with "Proud of All Student Athletes."

Some politics wrote on May 27, 2008 11:01 PM:I truly believe that there is politics involved in this selection i dont know about baseball and all those sports but for volleyball how does a team like LCC which didn't lose to a single San Diego Section team only get 2 people selected and Beau is in the second team even though he is a lot better than some of the players on the first team and a person on the second team played for a losing record team and still didn't do much for them, overall i think that the selections for volleyball were results of poor research and probably got a word or two out to the person who wrote this article

Politics wrote on May 28, 2008 1:38 PM:The volleyball choices were way bizarre. Players were chosen where other players on their own team was much better. Spencer Scott of Torrey is by far the second best player on their team. Teams that will end up first and second in the county will only have two players represented. LCC and Mt. Carmel had awesome years and yet only have two players on the list. LCC's middles and Mt. Carmel middles were the best in the county and they aren't even mentioned. I don't know who chooses this list, but it's not even close to being accurate.

LCC parent wrote on May 29, 2008 7:18 AM:How about waiting until after the CIF playoffs to make your selections. Some teams and players come on strong in the play offs take a look at what La Costa Canyon Baseball has done beating the best in san diego advancing to the championship!

TrevA wrote on May 29, 2008 9:38 AM:So just wondering about the volleyball selections and how in all the 1st, 2nd and 3rd team selections, there is not one libero?
Dont get me wrong, you need offense, but a little recognition for the defense would make some feel better.

To LCC parent wrote on May 29, 2008 9:40 AM:I don't think it is about how well a team does in playoffs. That obviously wouldn't be fair because some very good players' teams don't make it to playoffs.

It is about individual's play not their teams play. (Just because a player or team comes on strong during the short playoff season means nothing.)

Just ask yourself- Is this player or that player the very best player in the NC at his position. Do the stats show that? Is he written up in the paper for outstanding plays. Do the opposing team's player and coaches fear him, know his name and his abiliites,is he being scouted continually, etc.

Those are the boy's that usually make the list.

LCC Parent wrote on May 29, 2008 9:47 AM:Palomar League standings (Really the best in SD)

4th place

6wins 9losses

Thats life wrote on May 29, 2008 11:56 AM:The player plays, the coach coaches and the parents (are suppose to) sit down and watch the game. You know it as well as I do whoever wins gets the press and the reporters interview the coaches and the coaches pop off with popular names without even looking at what other players individual stats are, then NCT writes their story and names a team. So many names are great athletes and undeserving of the title "first team and second team" because of their attitude. That's life...the squeaky wheel gets the grease. What you going to do about it. Study more.

HS FAN wrote on May 29, 2008 12:50 PM:CONGRATS TO ALL THESE SCHOLAR-ATHLETES, A JOB WELL DONE.

To TrevA, the Libero position is represented...the third team I believe, the Torrey kid.

Volleyball Fan wrote on May 29, 2008 1:59 PM:I think the names are obviously placed in a hat and drawn, because one who is educated in the game and watches many games knows more than the one who posted the teams!

HS FAN wrote on May 30, 2008 7:43 AM:The libero for Torrey was at best the fifth best libero in the Palomar league out of six teams. Obviously his dad who coaches Torrey had some pull. As you read the comments above obviously whoever picked the teams doesn't know what they are doing.

Volleyballer wrote on May 30, 2008 8:59 AM:It's great that the coaches decided to leave out Middle as a position in volleyball and only choose outsides and setters for all NC...obviously no one cares for creating an accurate list its all about pleasing a bunch of seniors parents

esco wrote on May 30, 2008 10:25 AM:Why is it only boys dad's who complain? Quit living life through your kid! It is what it is. If your kid is that good, they will get a scholarship somewhere. That is the best recognition.

To ESCO wrote on May 30, 2008 7:15 PM:I agree!! At least for baseball. I think those players are the best at their positions. I don't know about volleyball.

Curious wrote on Jun 3, 2008 10:23 AM:How can it be that a player in an unnamed sport is left off of an all north county 1st 2nd or 3rd team by a writer/staff but yet is voted 1st team all Palomar by league coaches? They can't both be right can they?

Apathetic wrote on Jun 3, 2008 12:09 PM:The picks are usually given to juniors & seniors, god forbid a freshman dominate the stats and leave a senior off the list. Thats just a coach's way of paying back the parents for their support of his / her program. The All North County is another joke, they don't even use their owns stats, check it out...

Lazy Staff wrote on Jun 3, 2008 2:05 PM:Why don't you list all the league champions? Using the CIF Finals is absurd, it's one race. The athlete should be choosen based on the results of their entire season. Just qualifying means they are at the top of their game.Too many wind aided results and times at the finals. You should recognize these kids, esp at the D1 level where the competition is so much more intense.

DUH! The Palomar league is just one of the many leagues in the NC. Just because one makes All Palomar league doesn't mean they will make an all north county list. If that was the case, then only Palomar League players would make up the ALL North County Teams, of course the team would have to be then called the ALL PALOMAR TEAM.
