OCEANSIDE ---- The North County Times is offering free "Jobs Wanted" ads to students looking for summer jobs during the month of June. Students should send a description of the job wanted and a little bit about themselves and their qualifications, and the paper will list the information in a directory in the classified section "Students Want Work!"

Oceanside Elks to hold bingo

Gang awareness/prevention is program topic
OCEANSIDE ---- The city of Oceanside's Community Safety Partnership will present a free Gang Awareness and Prevention Program, co-sponsored by North County Lifeline, from 5:45-7:45 p.m. June 5 at Joe Balderrama Recreation Center, 709 San Diego St. Call (760) 435-5529. Topics will include:
-- What is a gang and how are they established in the community;
-- What can parents and family members do to prevent youths getting into gangs;
-- Why youths glamorize gang behavior and why they want to be part of a gang.
Fundraiser for mission at Outback
OCEANSIDE ---- To mark the 210th birthday of Mission San Luis Rey, a fundraising event will be held June 7 at the Outback Steakhouse, 2485 Vista Way. There will be two seatings for lunch, at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. All proceeds benefit the mission and the Marines.
Tickets are $20 adults; $10 children ages 10 and under. Area residents also can buy meals for Marines and their families. The mission has teamed with the Armed Services YMCA at Camp Pendleton to coordinate the distribution of 100 meals for Marines.
The menu includes a 9-ounce sirloin steak, chicken or grilled salmon, Caesar salad, Aussie chips, beverage and ice cream. Reserve by calling (760) 757-3651, Ext. 164.

ECHS/OHS class of '78 reunion planned
OCEANSIDE ---- El Camino High School/Oceanside High School class of '78 will celebrate their 30th class reunion July 25-27 beginning with the Arthur Hemingway Foundation Golf Tournament at 8 a.m. July 25 at San Luis Rey Downs, followed by an icebreaker at 5 p.m. at the Flying Bridge restaurant, 1105 N. Coast Highway.

OASIS offers beginning computer class

Power walks at Batiquitos Lagoon
CARLSBAD ---- Power walks will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on the first Saturday of every month at Batiquitos Lagoon. Start the day with a brisk walk on one of North County's finest trails and enjoy nature, too. Docent Patti Golong will lead the walks. Museum to honor Ravi Shankar at gala
CARLSBAD ---- The Museum of Making Music will hold its sixth annual "Evening of Note" fundraiser, honoring Indian music legend Ravi Shankar, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. June 14 at The Crossings at Carlsbad, 5800 The Crossings Drive. The evening will include a reception featuring performances by Kamau Kenyatta and the San Diego Youth Symphony & Conservatory String Quartet. The event will also feature the Patnaik Sisters Indian Dance Troupe, Peter Sprague and Fred Benedetti, and youth cello prodigy Nathan Chan. Proceeds support the museum's ongoing educational outreach programs, workshops, performances and exhibitions. Cost is $100 per person, $1200 for a table of 12. Scholarship concert planned
ENCINITAS ---- The Scholarship Concert of the Coastal Communities Concert Band, titled "A Celebration of America," will be held at 2 p.m. June 8 in the Encinitas Community Center, corner of Encinitas Boulevard and Balour Road.
The concert will feature outstanding music students from the San Dieguito High School District who have been recommended by their band directors. These students will audition for scholarships totaling $3,000 that can be used for summer music camps, music lessons or music equipment. All 18 honor students will join the band on three selections.
The documentary about the Coastal Communities Concert Band "Community Band, Our Lives in Music," has been nominated for an Emmy Award by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Pacific Southwest Chapter. Special Education seminar offered
ENCINITAS ---- The La Jolla Learning Foundation will host a free Special Education seminar with guest speaker attorney Thomas S. Nelson at 5 p.m. June 12 at the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive.
Nelson is a special-education attorney with more than 22 years' experience in litigation and advocacy. He has helped many families advocate for an appropriate education for their children with special needs, allowing students to reach their full potential and contribute to society. Center to offer Pilates for seniors

Environmental film festival to screen
ENCINITAS ---- The Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association will host Patagonia's Wild & Scenic Film Tour as part of The Cottonwood Creek Environmental Film Festival June 6-8 (with Encinitas Environment Day on June 8) at various venues in downtown Encinitas. The festival will include a "Very Important Planet Party"; an all-day screening of environmental films; a competition for local films; and a sunset film screening hosted by the Surfrider Foundation.
