Church to hold white elephant sale

Mission to host annual powwow

OCEANSIDE ---- The San Luis Rey Mission Indian Foundation will sponsor the San Luis Rey Band of Luiseno Mission Indians 12th annual Inter-Tribal Powwow from 9 a.m.-11 p.m. June 14 and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. June 15 at the mission, 4050 Mission Ave. Gourd dancing starts at 10 a.m. both days. Grand Entry will be at noon and 7 p.m. June 14 and noon June 15. Intertribal and competition dancing will follow Grand Entry on both days.

Dancing includes Northern and Southern Traditional, Grass, Fancy, Fancy Shawl and Jingle. Indian tacos and fry bread will be available as well as a vendor village with unique American Indian jewelry, artwork, music and crafts. Visit www.slrmissionindians.org.

Zeppetella foundation holds fundraiser

OCEANSIDE ---- The Tony W. Zeppetella Memorial Foundation will hold an inaugural fundraiser dinner at 6 p.m. June 14 at the El Camino Country Club, 3202 Vista Way. The event will include recognition of the recipients of the annual Zeppetella Teacher Appreciation Award and the students who nominated these special teachers. There also will be a program and a silent auction.

Throughout the year, the foundation gives to individuals, families and organizations in the community. The foundation has fed military families, provided Christmas decorations, dinners and gifts for families in need, and given to established organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club and the NAACP.

Intro to the Music Business class offered

OCEANSIDE ---- Learn the details of how record companies operate in a three-day workshop offered through MiraCosta College's Community Services Program. In Introduction to the Music Business, students will learn what makes a hit record, how much money is actually generated from record sales, details on artist contracts and more.

Artist reception set for June 13

OCEANSIDE ---- A free open house and artist reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. June 13 at The Oceanside Art Gallery, 602 Mission Ave. The gallery, operated by Joseph and Mary Villela, will host the reception to inaugurate a new exhibit by local North County artist members of the OMA Artist Alliance. Art for the exhibit was selected by Catherine Gleason, director of exhibits for the museum.

The exhibit represents many local artists with different styles and mediums and will run from June 11 through July 13. The gallery is open from 1-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays; 4-9 p.m. Fridays; or by appointment. Call (760) 732-0399.

STEM camp upcoming

MiraCosta College has received a Perkins Grant for a four-day summer camp to encourage high school students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The camp will being together instructors, industry professionals and current college students from STEM fields to lead hands-on, lab-oriented class sessions that will demonstrate the power of these applied technologies. Students also will receive career guidance and mentoring.

The STEM Summer Camp is open to high school students enrolling in ninth or 10th grade this fall. Enrollment is very limited; students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Pageant applications available

OCEANSIDE ---- Applications are now being accepted for the 29th annual Miss Southern Children's-Teen Pageant, to be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 21 during the annual Oceanside Harbor Day Celebration. Girls ages 2-19 are eligible to enter in six categories: Baby Miss, ages 2-3; Wee Miss, ages 4-6; Little Miss, ages 7-9; Petite Miss, ages 10-12; Junior Miss, ages 13-15; and Teen Miss, ages 16-19.

Support group for military officers

SOLANA BEACH ---- A support group for active-duty and retired military officers experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression and anxiety meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church, 225 Stevens Ave. Psychotherapist Martin Landau-North, also board certified in traumatic stress, leads the group once a month. The group is designed to help members achieve recovery through mutual support as well as to provide updated information about causes and treatment, eliminating myths about anxiety disorders and depression. Shelter seeks food donations for pets

RANCHO SANTA FE ---- The AniMeals program at the Helen Woodward Animal Center is seeking pet food donations, particularly senior food for both dogs and cats. AniMeals works with Meals-on-Wheels and other organizations to provide free pet food for the dogs and cats of elderly or disabled people throughout San Diego County. Donations can be dropped off at the Helen Woodward Animal Center, 6461 El Apajo Road, or in the AniMeals bins at participating Petco stores. Volunteers can also hold their own AniMeals pet food drive through their office, family, school, church or temple group, Scout troop or civic organization. Divorce seminar designed to educate

Library to host Jewish book reading, talk

ENCINITAS ---- The San Diego County Library will host the national "Let's Talk About It: Jewish Literature" scholar-led reading and book discussion series. The series, whose theme explores the topic: "A Mind of Her Own: Fathers And Daughters In a Changing World," will continue from 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 11 in the community room of the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive.

Church to host June 19 performance fundraiser

SOLANA BEACH ---- Project Turnaround and the Pioneers Club will present "It Is Great to be Different," a multipart performance fundraiser, at 7 p.m. June 19 in St. James' Community Hall, 625 S. Nardo Ave. The production will feature Greek dancing, singing and a short play, "One Eye, Two Eyes, Three Eyes," based on an old Russian fable.
