joanne wrote on Jun 3, 2008 9:13 PM:Mt Carmel girls didn't have enough girls on the first and 2nd teams. Unreal. Escondido got more than it's share of 1st and 2nd team player. I can't believe the Mission Hills girls only had 1 player on each the 1st and 2nd team. Thank goodness people who know softball know that Maggie D and Kelly Fox from Mt Carmel deserve better and a lot of those Esco girls got better than they deserved. They are good players but Lisa Akamine carried that team. Not everything is always fair, I know but those things stood out to me.
Yo Joanne wrote on Jun 4, 2008 6:55 AM:Kind of hard to feel sorry for you when Mt. Carmel wins CIF, which is the ultimate TEAM award, and most of the girls you mention have already been awarded full ride scholarships or are close to deciding. Maybe it's payback for those ridiculously short fences at the MCHS field that allow their players to juice their stats.
To Joanne wrote on Jun 4, 2008 7:18 AM:Wow, imagine someone complaining that Mt. Carmel or Mission Hills don't get their props. Would you rather have a CIF title or more players named to the first team All-Valley? Regarding MHHS, they were inconsistent this season and not nearly the program they were in the past. Should their players be given awards due to past performances or what they've done lately? Face it, high school sports is bogus when it comes time to being consistent with awards, relying far too much on coaches' input on their own players and the win\loss record of teams. How else to explain why so many quality players are found on the honorable mention lists that chould have warranted a first-or-second team award?
PLEASE........ wrote on Jun 4, 2008 7:27 AM:Who summits these players. Do reporters pull the names out of a hat or do the coaches?
Tom wrote on Jun 4, 2008 10:48 AM:What's up with the Palomar league boys baseball selection committee/process. There isn't a catcher named to the first team and the catcher named to the second team batted only .247. Three other catchers Andrew V. (Westveiw) batted .309, Ben V. (Mt. Carmel) batted .308, Austin W. (Poway) batted .308. Someone needs to rethink the process and reward position players for their efforts.
I didn't realize pitchers, infielders or outfielders were catchers too.
This is ridicules!!
TOP SECRET wrote on Jun 4, 2008 11:19 AM:Supposedly ALL LEAGUE selections are decided completely by the coaches.....but who knows.
There was actually a football player this year that made FIRST TEAM ALL CIF.....and only made honorable mention in his own league.
Go figure.
To Joanne wrote on Jun 4, 2008 2:41 PM:Obviously you do not know your softball. Lisa was player of the year for a reason. Escondido will continue to be a good team as they have depth in pitching. Sounds to me like maybe your daughter did not make the list! Bottom line is your team won the title. Be happy and move on!
Congrats wrote on Jun 4, 2008 3:11 PM:Good job boys - now carry that over to the classroom. Not too many people really care about this detail until you tell them that you are a 4.0 student. Then you start turning heads....
to congrats wrote on Jun 5, 2008 8:01 AM:If you check out the UT's all-academic team, most of those boys are on it. And I know quite a few of them that are turning heads. If fact, one pitcher of the the year is a 4.33 and a lot of the seniors already have scholarship offers. Most athletes today know you have to have talent and good grades. Check your facts before you comment.
TO Congrats wrote on Jun 5, 2008 1:15 PM:to congrats
wrote on Jun 5, 2008 8:01 AM:
Yes you are right.
My nephew is on this list as well as the all north county team. He has a D1 baseball scholarship and his GPA is 3.9. He was a multi sport all league player as well.
Congrats to all1
FS wrote on Jun 6, 2008 8:14 AM:Hey "Tom" - there or other intangibles, along with the stats, that make up an "All League" selection..........some kids have them and some kids don't. As a parent, you should probably learn to deal with that.
Ebanezer wrote on Jun 6, 2008 2:59 PM:If you don't get a 4.0, you should not receive any award. Period.
Scholarship wrote on Jun 7, 2008 6:04 PM:Parents of athletes are a crack up. You are so worried about your child's name in the NC Times. Do you think the coach at UCLA, Duke, Stanford, or even SDSU for that matter, reads the NC Times??? And decides he is going to scout your kid because his/her name was mentioned three times the whole year? Wake up!
Its an article for local sports and the writers are doing the best they can. These posts are comical.
BTW - To Top Secret - ALL CIF teams are selected based strictly upon teams/indivdual performance in the CIF Playoffs. IF your team didn't make neither do your kids.
Mike wrote on Jun 8, 2008 11:43 PM:To Scholarship:
I think you are wrong about how they chose All CIF teams. It is based on the players play for the season, not JUST how they play in the finals. Look at the players and teams they came from. They aren't just from teams that did well in the playoffs.
It has become clear wrote on Jun 9, 2008 10:26 AM:For those of you who are not sure what happens for this process please let me tell you. It is the coach of your your childs highschool who is responsible for getting your sons or daughters on this list for a vote. Then it is all politics and may or may not have anything to do with your kids talent level. Good thing for travel ball and showcases.
Honorable Mentions wrote on Jun 9, 2008 11:33 AM:To receive an honorable mention, no voting takes place. All a coach has to do is mention his players. Hence, the politcs and unfairness begins!!
sports fan wrote on Jun 10, 2008 7:02 AM:To: It has become clear;
Politics? I can't believe it! Who would have thought it involves politics? Nothing ever invovles politics. Right?
Wake up people! If your child produces stats, no one can argue that. If your child is a good athlete, then someone will recognize them. Quit whinning! Oh yeah, on a side note, if I was your kids coach, I wouldn't nominate him/her either. Sounds like your an unhappy parent with a mediocre kid.
Brilliant wrote on Jun 10, 2008 9:18 AM:Always count on "Sports Fan" to contribute in a positive way. Politics equals favoritism, favoritism results in individuals not receiving their due. Most parents just want their kids to receive the kudos that the weeks and months of hard work should bring. Meantime "Sports Fan" why do I feel that you would be screaming the loudest if your athlete was slighted?
Sportsfan wrote on Jun 11, 2008 8:02 PM:"Kudos"; what are you? an administrator. Typical though, it is always the people the gripe, that say, "you would do the same if it were your child." Sorry to say, my kids all received D1 scholarships at their respective sports. And I never once spoke neagitively about their coaches. Know why? because I taught my kids to never complain and work hard, Go figure
who cares wrote on Jun 12, 2008 12:02 AM:this all league stuff does not make sense.look at the stats closely. they NEED to take the BEST players from each team that has made a difference. El camino's Marte Bowen is a real good player, but so was Gonzo Gonzalez. He was there best pitcher and even player. He even beat O'side on the mound. But then overall look at O'side. Damian Kardas had over 20 RBI'S and hit .350+ during league and Pat McGuire hit .420+ overall and 35+ RBI'S with 8 HR's and they all made 2nd team. I think its just unfair how these seniors make 2nd team when they are better then some of the under classmen that made first team. the voters should take a minute and think about how much this means to the seniors to be a 1st team all league performer especially when they have put the team first.
Hey Sportsfan wrote on Jun 17, 2008 3:49 PM:Wow, you live the perfect life: kids all get scholarships, you speak with a straight tongue at all times and you never met a coach you didn't like. Let us all know the next time you are walking on water so that we can take a photo!
Watchful Eye wrote on Jul 5, 2008 8:10 PM:Adrian Williams has been a phenominal player since he was in T-ball, all-star every year, always golden glove, always first team all Ivy/Inland Valley League, USA Baseball 18U National Trial Team (ALTERNATE!!!!politics, of course!). But, because no coach representation at selection process, no first team all county selection. A scholar athlete, watch him play in 2009!
