Domino art class offered

SAN MARCOS ---- Simply Ambrosia Boutique, 577 Rancho Santa Fe Road, will host a domino art class from 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 11. Learn how to stamp and colorize dominoes to make interesting jewelry and magnets. Cost of $15 includes supplies to make two domino pins or magnets. Reserve at (760) 593-0350.

Massage therapy school plans celebration

ESCONDIDO ---- The Healing Hands School of Holistic Health celebrates its national accreditation at 4 p.m. June 11 at the school, 125 W. Mission, Suite 210. It is the first independently owned massage therapy school in North County to achieve this status. The celebration will include refreshments and chair massages. (760) 746-9364.

Senior Center plans Father's Day event

SAN MARCOS ---- The San Marcos Senior Center, 111 W. Richmar Ave., will hold its annual Father's Day celebration June 13. The party begins at 10:45 a.m. with a performance by the popular Toe Tappers. A roast beef and baked potato lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.

The event is sponsored by Woodland Village of San Marcos. Suggested donation for lunch is $3 for seniors 60 and older. A fee of $5 will be collected from those under 60.

Lunch reservations must be made the day before by calling the center at (760) 744-5535. Those who need transportation can call Jerry at Ext. 3605.

Youth Day Pool Party on tap

POWAY ----  Children ages 6-12 are invited to attend the Poway Community Swim Center's annual Youth Day Pool Party from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. June 13. An adult will need to be present for children 6 years old to participate.  

The day will include swimming, games, crafts, and contests. There also will be attractions such as four inflatable fun jumps and a 30-foot long inflatable slip-and-slide. A pizza lunch will be served along with snacks throughout the day.

Cost is $12 per child if registered by June 12; day of event registration will be $16 per child. Parents attending with their children will be charged the daily admission fee. Extended care is available from 2 -5 p.m. for an additional $5.

Pacific Belles plan Flag Day concert

ESCONDIDO ---- The Pacific Belles Chapter of Sweet Adelines International will present a Flag Day concert and ice cream social June 14 at the Joslyn Senior Center, 210 Park Ave. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the show begins at 2 p.m.

The show will feature patriotic and summer songs, with performances by a color guard, quartets and the guest men's quartet A Song and a Smile.

Ticket donation is $5. Pacific Belles is a supporter of the Young Singers Foundation, which presents scholarships for musical education. Call (760) 439-8639.

Lake San Marcos Democratic Club to host speaker

LAKE SAN MARCOS ---- The Lake San Marcos Democratic Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. June 14 in the Lake Pavilion at 1105 La Bonita Drive.

The speaker will be Jim Bell, an ecological designer, author and lecturer, who has received a number of awards for his work in environmental design. He is the director of the Ecological Life Systems Institute and the San Diego Center for Appropriate Technology, and is a well-known speaker on ecology and planning for a sustainable future. Arts & Crafts Market planned

POWAY ---- An Arts & Crafts Market, a juried show and sale of traditional arts and crafts by members of the Poway Arts & Crafts Guild and guest artists will take place during the Sam Hinton Folk Heritage Festival on June 14 in Old Poway Park, 14134 Midland Road. Hours are from 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Free.

Artwork will include woodworking, blown glass, pottery, quilts, paintings, photography, mosaics and hand-forged silver jewelry.

Sponsored by San Diego Folk Heritage, the festival will be held in the gazebo/bandstand and throughout the historic buildings and grounds of Old Poway Park. The day will include traditional music, storytelling, workshops, concerts and sing-alongs. Food and refreshments available.

AARP '55 Alive' driving classes offered

ESCONDIDO ---- The Senior Service Council offers a two-part "AARP 55 Alive" driving course for seniors from 8 a.m.-noon the first and second Tuesday of each month in the Dorothy E. Boeger Building, 728 N. Broadway. Cost is $10. Make checks payable to AARP. 'Life Transitions After 50' is forum topic

LAKE SAN MARCOS ---- The United Church of Lake San Marcos hosts a monthly Third Thursday Forum on health and aging issues. This month's forum will be from 10-11 a.m. June 19 in the Lake Pavilion at Lake San Marcos. The topic will be "Continuing Life Transitions After 50."

Professionals representing Medi-Cal and veterans' benefits, reverse mortgages, moving/packing/organizing, and senior living options will provide information and little-known facts that affect those ages 50 and older.

St. Mark's Church plans fiesta

SAN MARCOS ---- St. Mark's Church will hold its Grand Fiesta June 20-22 on the church grounds, 1147 Discovery St. Free admission and parking. Rides, food, games, prizes, dancing and entertainment for all ages. Attendees will have the opportunity to win a 2008 Ford Ranger truck or one of four cash prizes. Fiesta hours are from 5-10 p.m. June 20, noon-10 p.m. June 21, and 1-8 p.m. June 22.

Monster Band Jam set for June 20

SAN MARCOS ---- Biggs Harley-Davidson & Buell will host a Monster Band Jam from 5-8 p.m. June 20 at the dealership, 717 Center Drive.

Artists invited to exhibit works

POWAY ---- The Poway Center for the Performing Arts invites artists and art organizations to apply to exhibit their work at the center during 2009.

Each applicant may request a one-month period to exhibit work beginning in January 2009. The exhibit space consists of the lobby walls on the orchestra and balcony levels, and can accommodate 60 to 80 framed pieces depending on size, and a limited number of three-dimensional pieces.

Hope Food plans Barter Day

ESCONDIDO ---- Hope Food Inc., a shared food program in Escondido, will celebrate its second year feeding families in San Diego County with a canned food drive and yard sale/Barter Day from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 22 in the parking lot at 1941 Don Lee Place, Suite C. The event will include free hot dogs and face painting. Those who donate food can also receive a free haircut.

A donation of 10 cans of food is required to reserve a spot for the yard sale; participants should be open to bartering for items.

Chick-fil-A plans Military Appreciation Night

NORTH COUNTY ---- Chick-fil-A will show its appreciation for the armed forces when its hosts Military Appreciation Night from 5-8 p.m. June 12 at all four San Diego County locations ---- San Marcos, Oceanside, Sports Arena and Chula Vista. The event is sponsored by Wells Fargo.

All active and veteran armed forces members with an ID and their families will receive a free meal. Each store also will have various activities. At the San Marcos location, there will be music, a lemon squeezing contest and a raffle. Also, the Chick-Fil-A cow mascots will be on hand, and coupons and goodie bags will be given away.

Chick-fil-A San Marcos is at 578 Grand Ave.; Chick-fil-A Oceanside is at 3475 Marron Road.
