This is for the people's own good
I read with interest the letter from the young woman regarding the proposed ban on beach smoking (Letters, June 9). Her rationale coincides with a law I will be proposing as follows: 1. All lotions, sun block, tanning oils and similar cosmetics will be banned. Some scientists claim they damage the ocean ecosystem.
2. All persons using the beach must wear sun-blocking clothing covering 75 percent of their body, including arms, shoulders, torso and upper legs, when not actually in the water. This will prevent hundreds of thousands of cases of skin problems and cancer. Studies indicate that this costs the country untold millions of dollars annually. It will also reduce sunburn, which studies indicate costs the economy tens of millions in lost productivity annually.
3. All perfumes, scents and odors that are discernible within 10 feet of the wearer are prohibited.
I know these modest restrictions may cause some readjustments, but after all, they are for everybody's good and will save people and the marine ecology. And I'm sure people will realize that the government is caring for them. I hope I can count on your support.

Great job recovering stolen car
I would like to publicly thank the Escondido Police Department for the outstanding job they did in recovering our stolen vehicle. Although the vehicle is old, it gets very good gas mileage and would have been very expensive to replace.
Within 20 minutes of our phone call, while the report was actually being taken, officers located the vehicle in Escondido. I have had occasion to contact the men and women of the Escondido Police Department a few times, and in each instance they could not have been more courteous and professional.

Give me a break
All eyes turn as the early morning sun sends a flash of light, giving away the perp who is about to attempt the crime of the century. What dastardly deed is this villain about to commit, and will the recipient of this foul action survive this act and the horrific memories it will surely cause?
If we read the papers for the last month, and the deed is a sneak photo of a golfer taken by a spectator at the U.S. Open, there is no hope! Surely the pampered, mollycoddled martyr whose picture will be snapped will have to be escorted off the course because his eyes will melt and his brain will be shattered beyond repair.
Come on! Go to a CIF basketball game and watch a kid about to shoot a foul shot in a tied game with one second left to see how a true athlete handles pressure with distractions. If these spoon-fed so-called professionals want complete isolation and silence, let them play on their private oasis and give us our public course back.

Watch where you walk!
The North County Times article by Gary Warth on snakebites becoming more toxic, based on the UC San Diego medical toxicology report as well as findings from toxicologists in Arizona and Colorado, is significant ("Snakebites becoming more toxic," June 10). Perhaps a new antivenin for bites will be forthcoming after more research.
Southern Pacific rattlesnakes are cited in this article, and indeed, they are common in San Diego County. Some newspaper clippings of rattler bites in recent years in suburban neighborhoods have identified this species, but more often the type of rattler is not identified.
At Escondido's Daley Ranch, the red diamond rattler is more common. Despite its less-aggressive nature and less-toxic venom than that of the southern Pacific rattler, it still is a dangerous reptile that can inflict considerable tissue and possible organ damage. A trip to a hospital for antivenin treatment is mandatory. The former tourniquet and/or suction application is potentially dangerous to the victim. Observations from California and other states concerning increasing reptile toxicity behoove all of us to be extremely careful, not only while enjoying open space but even in our suburban neighborhoods.

Why no mention of impeachment?
On June 9, Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich read into the Congressional record 35 articles of impeachment indicting President Bush. It was covered live on C-Span. The following day we found no mention of this in the North County Times, the San Diego Union Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, The New York Times or the Washington Post. However, the Belfast Telegraph did print the story!
Never has a president violated his oath to the people of this country and our Constitution so flagrantly, enriched his cronies so generously, or betrayed our armed forces so viciously. The leadership of the Democratic Party has consistently avoided the built-in remedy of impeachment. For reasons unexplained, Nancy Pelosi announced before the 2006 election, "Impeachment is off the table." Thank you, Dennis Kucinich!

Punish those breaking the law
Regarding, "City considers shopping-cart crackdown," June 9: Who is breaking the law? People taking and stealing the shopping carts from the stores are the ones breaking the law, not the stores.
Let the law be enforced by the police by ticketing these people the same as those jaywalking. To punish the stores because someone is stealing their property is ridiculous.

There's hardly any difference
When President Truman retired from office in 1952, his income was substantially a U.S. Army pension reported to have been $13,507.72 a year.ˇCongress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an allowance and, later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year. When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating, "You don't want me. You want the office of the president, and that doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the American people, and it's not for sale." Even later, on May 6, 1971, when Congress was preparing to award him the Medal of Honor on his 87th birthday, he refused to accept it, writing, "I don't consider that I have done anything which should be the reason for any award, Congressional or otherwise."
Today, many in Congress have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the fruits of their offices. Political offices are now for sale. Was good old Harry Truman correct when he observed, "My choice early in life was either to be a piano player in a whorehouse or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference"?

Moral compass, not skin color, is what matters
Peggy Sloan's letter of June 8: I don't care what color Michele Obama is. Sloan is the only one who doesn't understand. I don't care if you're black, brown, white, red or yellow ““ it is your moral compass that is important. We are all God's children. Clear enough?
Michele has had many advantages, as her attendance at Harvard proves. This was at the taxpayers' expense and, like all people, is to be repaid. But she also complains she had to repay it! She also said America is a mean country. That sure inspires her race. She is a product of the Rev. Wright's church.
I, too, lived in Chicago, and couldn't leave fast enough. I loved Sloan's threat that she is going to tell Oprah and I'll be in big trouble! Ha! I'm trembling. Sounds like a little kid to me. Sloan's problem is she didn't read all my letter. But then, she didn't understand what she did read. I don't understand why she and Michele would be cellmates. Michele paid off her loan. I do believe Michele would be a poor role model. We need leaders who inspire and praise the good in our country.
I will have a good day, Peggy! Oh, by the way, Oprah knows how to read. And Michele's salary is $316,000 a year. Tough.

Protect our trees
Due to a slip-and-fall incident and impending lawsuit, the city of Escondido was contemplating chopping down several of the beautiful camphor trees that line the entrance to the Sonata subdivision on Beethoven because of some tree roots there that have intruded into the sidewalk ("Aggressive resident campaign saves 70 trees in Escondido," June 7). These trees are sacred and elegant ““ a part of the signature of Escondido ““ and thankfully, most will be protected. If one falls down, it is not the fault of the trees ““ simply that one hasn't been watching where one is walking.
In a world where too often cement replaces green, trees must be preserved. On this planet, we need more trees that offer refuges of beauty, plus provide oxygen to exchange the greenhouse gases of global warming. Cutting down any of these trees would be a sacrilege. There are ways to fix a sidewalk without destroying trees that have taken so many years to grow into the stature that these trees possess.
I ask the city of Escondido to protect our green areas that benefit the whole society. We must resist the thoughtlessness of one individual who should take responsibility for her carelessness and not penalize us all.

Prop. 215 a campaign to legalize drugs
I am one of many citizens in San Diego who thinks we should not be allocating tax dollars for a marijuana ID card program. Californians were misled when they voted for Proposition 215. The Compassionate Use Act was passed by 56 percent of the voters, but only 30 percent of voters turned out for that election.
Prop. 215 has turned out to be nothing more than a campaign to legalize drugs. The marijuana ID card program is not only unnecessary, but it delays patients from receiving more appropriate medical care. Patients deserve medicine that has been adequately tested for safety and effectiveness.
The state has no business deciding what medicine is, when the FDA is the only agency authorized to determine that. Our youth are the ones most at risk through the increased access and lowered perception of harm associated with marijuana use. The truth is, marijuana is an addictive drug with significant health consequences to its users. I appreciate the wisdom of the County Board of Supervisors for recognizing that Prop. 215 ultimately affects all Californians, because it endangers our public safety.

It's better to know who our enemies are
A great big thank-you to the North County Times for publishing a majority of the letters you receive. Most large, impersonal newspapers would file the steady stream of anti-Semitic screeds with the rest of the garbage. And when these writers cite America-hating, self-loathing Jews such as Norman Finkelstein, Noam Chomsky, or Howard Zinn, the landscape becomes more clear.
I am of the opinion it's best to know who our friends (and detractors) are. None of the regular anti-Semitic writers discuss the Ottoman Empire being broken up as a consequence of backing the losing German side in WWI, which resulted in the British mandate. None discuss the two-state solution agreed to by Israel and the U.N. but never accepted by Arabs. None discuss the wars waged upon Israel since statehood ““ miraculously, Israel is still with us. None discuss the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem meeting with Adolf Hitler et al. in November 1941. This "leader" thought it best if Hitler included a phase of the murderous "Final Solution" in the Middle East ““ and this before the state of Israel was established. Our only ally in the Middle East is Israel.

Barack is different
Howie Mandel is a terrorist! Yes, he is. I saw it on Fox News. Fist-bumping is only done by terrorists. E.D. Hill of Fox News told me so. If Fox says it, I believe it and that settles it.
And did you know the entire Lakers and Celtics basketball teams, and most of the audience in the stands for game two of the NBA championship series, hate America. That's right. They all hate America. During the playing of the "Star Spangled Banner," those America-haters did not put their hands on their hearts. That means they hate America because Fox News and Glenn Beck of CNN told me so.
Oh wait, was that the message I was supposed to get from the TV con men? No, no, that wasn't it. I think the fist-bumping and hand-on-heart tirades had to do with something else. What was it? I remember. I am supposed to notice that Barack Obama is different. Others may bump fists and not put their hands on their hearts during the playing of the national anthem, but that's OK as long as I remember the message. Barack is different. Be suspicious. ... Vote Republican.

Taking out Americans
The Cheney/Bush administration [wants] the Agriculture Department to stop looking for mad cow disease in U.S. cattle because of the negative effects on the cattle industry's profits. It's a sad thing to write about, but the fact is that it took an independent U.S. study to find MSRA has been found in pork, chicken and beef (Europe, Canada and Mexico have been doing similar testing). However, the U.S. Agriculture Department [may] stop its testing under the Cheney/Bush administration's directive.
The Agriculture Department is not that interested in the findings of this U.S. independent study. This administration believes that protecting U.S. corporate profits is much more important than saving American kids' lives. After all, the god of profit needs to come before the safety of the American people.
I'm sure al-Qaida wants all of you to vote Republican whenever you get a chance, because they are doing a better job of taking out Americans than al-Qaida ever could. Yes, I'm angry!

Power play by the U.N. and environmentalists
"The real reasons for climate change are uneven solar radiation," said Dr. Oleg Sorokhtin, a merited Scientist of Russia and Fellow of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and staff researcher of the Oceanology Institute. He cites the Earth's axis gyration and instability of oceanic currents.
Astrophysics knows two solar activity cycles of 11 and 200 years. Both are caused by changes in the radius and area of the irradiating solar surface. Yes, the sun itself goes through periods of change. The U.N. International Panel on Climate Change, whose reports have been based not on hard science, but on flawed, often deliberately false computer models, has been the driving factor behind the global warming hoax. What better way to assert political and economical control over the Earth than to create a global crisis?
Beyond the climate threat of a cooling planet is the one posed by U.S. politicians and European counterparts who are seeking to impose all manner of regulation and limits on energy use based on the false assertion that greenhouse gas emissions are causing global warming. They want to mandate a cap-and-trade scheme that will make some people and industries wealthy selling credits that will permit greenhouse gas emissions.

Gay union laws preserve essence of marriage
It's evident that law schools no longer require a classical education. If they did, the California Supreme Court majority could never have come to such an irrational and nonsensible decision.
In philosophy, "essence" is what makes an object what it fundamentally is. Marriage is essentially a contract between a consenting man and a consenting woman. Since consent requires reason and judgment, society can set a minimum age for marriage, or can declare a marriage invalid when entered into under duress or diminished capacity. Laws against interracial marriage could be set aside because race is not an essential, but rather an accidental or incidental human characteristic. Laws against gay marriage preserve the essence of marriage and should not be set aside.

Love or just sex?
The creator factored procreation into the nature of animals. Only humans of the animal kingdom have the capacity to elevate sex above and beyond a lustful, physical act into love, the catalyst of traditional marriage between a man and a woman.
In today's culture, without love, recreational, casual sexual activity has become simply an animalistic exercise in self-indulgence. Heterosexuals now hook up and shack up, as premarital and extra-marital sex are celebrated on TV screens, movie theaters and in novels. The frenzy and quest for gay "marriage" is also a disruption in the scheme of nature, although two paired women can still give birth by a surrogate, whereas two paired men are lacking this option.
Without emotion and self-restraint, feeding the appetite for sex alone provides no food for the soul and is tearing the social fabric of America apart. The current threat to diminish the sanctity of traditional marriage and family is just another step in demoralizing society.

No sour grape here! Congrats to the OUSD pro-Proposition H people ("OUSD bond measure passes by big margin," June 4). Having been outspent $130,000 to $55, I was surprised it was that close.

Plant actually costs district money
A recent article concerning Fallbrook Public Utility District's new sludge-drying plant is troublesome (" 'Green' sludge dryer feted with engineering award," June 7). FPUD claims they are now saving $6,000 per month ($72,000 per year) previously spent "to haul wet sludge to disposal sites." FPUD is now producing dried sludge, and the cost of operating this new sludge-drying plant is $75,000 per year. This is a net loss of $3,000 per year.
In addition, FPUD is presently selling, to a local flower producer, 20 tons per month of this dried sludge for $4 per ton, producing $960 per year of real income, thereby reducing its net loss to $2,040 per year. This is simple math. FPUD's yearly loss from the operation of the sludge-drying plant is $2,040 using FPUD's printed numbers. This is an extremely poor investment of the $2 million of ratepayers money spent on construction.
This sludge-drying plant is not saving FPUD money, it is costing FPUD money. The FPUD article referenced above also appears to be an advertisement to entice new buyers. Example: The last paragraph reads "anyone interested in bidding on the biosolids (dried sludge) contact ... ." San Diego City eliminated their sludge-dying business years ago because they were losing money. Poor FPUD management again.

Your help is needed
Honorable citizens, whenever performed, wisdom is a positive reflection of the dignity held by your own individual American spirit. It's an execution of your self-created thoughts put into words, or deeds, that have grown out of your heart, as well as out of your intellect, that are worthful to our multicultural society. A great number of you out there already know this because you possess this astute wisdom.
People, whoever you are, your help is needed. I implore you to remove the chains that you have put on your own tongues. To speak out to restore the union and dignity of our society, which is currently running amok and drowning itself in a sea of selfishness and intolerance. Let your combined wisdoms guide us all. For all of you are the true keepers of freedom's flame. And woe to us all if that flame were to die out due to your silences, or due to the total indifferences of our less-honorable citizens.

Don't forget the USS Liberty
The North County Times prints a daily column called "Today in History." It consists of what the Associated Press considers newsworthy.
For example: 16 years ago on March 17, an Israeli Embassy was bombed; five years ago on March 30, 30 people were wounded by a suicide bomber in Israel; and on June 10, Israel attempted to assassinate a senior Hamas leader.
But on June 8, 1967, when Israeli aircraft and gun boats attacked the USS Liberty, killing 34 American sailors and wounding 175, no mention was made of this disaster. The Israelis claimed it was an accident, but five ex-Secretaries of State, Admiral Moorer, then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and top leaders of the CIA and NSA all believed it was deliberate. This is the only maritime disaster never investigated by Congress. The crew was threatened with court martial if they talked to the news media. The captain was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, but President Johnson refused to be involved. Instead it was presented by an Under Secretary of the Navy.
At a time when we are honoring our military heroes, let's not forget the USS Liberty. See USS Liberty Web sites for more information.

McCain versus Obama conundrum
With McCain, you get to continue the war until we can exit gracefully, but you get zip on immigration, no waterboarding, negotiating on conservative judges (not necessarily conservative appointments). And the Republican leadership gets to believe they can keep your vote in the party no matter what they do. And almost definitely will continue to show no guts in fighting the shift to globalist socialism.
With Obama you get an articulate leader with the guts to try new things, but you get increased taxes, more government and mostly socialist programs; a real change to the left. You exit Iraq, letting the chips fall where they may, and liberal judges.
Would the failures of such an administration enable conservative voices to prevail next session? I don't think so, because we can't garner the power we need in Congress for lack of leadership, and a left-leading media we can't seem to change.
I'm thinking conservatives might gain more by sitting on our hands regrading the presidential [race] and pushing very hard to get the right people in Congress over the next several sessions. But is Congress a lost cause, like our schools?

Bilbray's vote against military is indefensible
In response to "Get all the info before forming an opinion," Letters, June 11: A reader defends Brian Bilbray's vote against the GI Bill that passed in the House recently, stating that Bilbray voted against the bill because it provided for four years free tuition for "only" three years of service and that it is a result of political arm twisting. He has got to be kidding! The bill passed overwhelmingly in the House with bipartisan support. Did Bilbray really vote against our heroes of Iraq and Afghanistan because they get four years of tuition for "only" three years of service (which, by the way, amounts to four academic years)?
This recent bill is comparable to the GI Bill given to the vets of WWII. Does Bilbray really think that the soldiers today that have done repeated combat tours are any less worthy of being taken care of when they return?
There is no excuse for any member of Congress who voted against this bill. Bilbray's vote against our military is despicable and indefensible.

We need a national retirement system
This letter won't be popular with some people ““ but it needs to be said. Until the 1950s, most middle-class and blue-collar workers were not in the stock market. That was something for rich guys, the ones subscribing to ticker tape and financial newspapers. With the sickening of the national retirement system (i.e., Social Security) and the loss of good, lifetime jobs paying medical and retirement benefits, the working class began worrying about their future. ...
It didn't take long before we saw the advent of 401k and similar funds ““ many of them partially paid for by the employer as part of his benefits package. That was the beginning of the double standard in looking at the economy. On one hand, the worker has lost his good job ““ replaced with poorly paid jobs in the service industry. But, not to worry ““ the few dollars he has invested in his 401k is making him a few dollars in paper profits! How blind can we be?
What we really need is a viable national retirement system for everyone, providing an adequate lifestyle for all retirees. At the same time, eliminate all reliance on 401ks and similar schemes ““ which only mask the real problem. More details? Sorry, I'm out of space.

SOLON wrote on Jun 15, 2008 2:13 AM:= Such convoluted sophistry used by Ernie Powell of Fallbrook (letter today) to annunciate who is fit to marry and who isn’t! I find especially peculiar his statement QUOTE: “because race is not an essential, but rather an accidental or incidental human characteristic.” END QUOTE.
One’s race is not accidental. Seems to me black parents are more like to have black children, and Anglos are more likely to have white kids. This is not an accident. What is Ernie trying to say?
Powell is all muddled about the “essence of marriage”. Marriage essentially means a joining. Why should heterosexuals be granted special privileges just because they chose to be heterosexual. Ooops! I forgot. Heterosexuals were born that way; they did not choose to be that way. Only homosexuals choose to be that way, because God does not create homosexuals, you see. Hmmm-m-m-m.
Sorry Ernie. Your thinking is too “fundamentalist”. Did God tell you that two men cannot love and be devoted to each other? Or two women? Two people who love each other and want to marry and enjoy the legal and social benefits of marriage should be afforded equal rights to marriage.
And forget this idiotic notion that partnerships are equivalent to marriage. That’s what race-baiting segregationists said about school integration: separate BUT EQUAL schools for blacks and for white. They were never equal, and could never be equal. Afford the same opportunities to all our people. I understand it is very hard for some older people, especially, to adjust their thinking. Maybe that is why we old codgers die off so young people with adjustable minds can repopulate the Earth.
SOLON wrote on Jun 15, 2008 2:38 AM:= You are not entitled to marry unless you can produce a baby, according to Henry Sanford (letter today). Love is irrelevant, he seems to rationalize.
Well … by this reasoning, marriage should be consummated only after a child has been born. Doesn’t this contradict his ban against premarital and extra-marital sex?
Kind of like the old joke, where one girl friend responds to another girl friend: “WHAT! You’re getting married? Honey, I didn’t even know you were pregnant!”
FAMILY is being redefined. More straight couples are having children before marrying. Many have children and never marry. Many never have children by mutual agreement. Many women want to have children and get rid of the no-good lazy bum afterwards. Gay couples adopt children. Gay women seem to find ways to have children, and we don’t need the government telling them they can’t. The most important factors in a healthy marriage are love and responsibility. And there are the valiant single mothers, abandoned by the bums, who work and provide for their kids - and this is ALL about love and responsibility.
You can postulate whatever old values you want about marriage, but in today’s world the reality is family and marriage are undergoing irreversible changes. And if gay men can’t have babies, maybe this is good for our overpopulated planet. We don’t need fanatics telling us who can marry and who cannot.

I see you're still referring to Senator Obama exclusively by his middle name. Do you call Senator McCain by his middle name also? Do you even have any idea what McCain's middle name is, or should it even matter at all?
Going back to your last post yesterday, you made several statements that are either outright lies, or perhaps you are simply ignorant in your beliefs.
1. You claim Obama attended a madrassas. This is false. Please look up the facts for yourself, rather than repeating these lies.
2. you claim I called President Bush by the name Hitler. No, I have not. I have actually said we should treat each other with respect and dispense with the name calling. Something you seem incapable of.
3. You claim I have disdain for President Bush for being a Christian. This is also false. I have only respect for each and every person when it comes to their religion. If you don't have an argument to make, please do not make things up about me. I plan to vote for Obama, who is also a Christian.
Obama has an African name. His father was Kenyan. If you have a problem with that, then you are showing your true colors. You are a racist. Please be respectful of others, and you will earn respect for yourself.

They can not see the dream of MLK where a person is judged by the content of their charactor, and not the color of their skin.
In fact, if you listen closely, all Americans are grouped, by sex, by color, by income, by anything really. You see, to them this is a game, it's about winning. So, like a corporation selling soap they will spin their particular messages to particular groups to sell the product, Barack Obama. "Oh, you of a certain racial grouping have a need?" They'll spin out a commerical. "Oh, the women feel left out?" Well, let's spin out another commerical.
It is classic "slick marketing & packaging", just as any corporation will focus group, parse words, and use certain colors to attract customers. They are attracting customers. This is the Democrat method of building a voting block.
They can't not see Americans, as Americans. The real power of this party is their ability to divide Americans, not unite them. You see this at virtually every level, the dividing by color, dividing by gender, dividing by income, Divide & Conquer is the Democrat game plan.

And then he goes onto adding his own conclusion: "because of the negative effects on the cattle industry's profits."
It's pap, it's baloney, and it's a lie.
The simple fact of the matter is the cattle industry knows how to do this, and they've been doing this long enough that they actually know better how to run their own programs for dealing with Mad Cow disease, than does the Government. In fact, it is in their own best interest to protect themselves from any disease that would harm their stock. If you follow the news, as I do, you'll note that most Mad Cow outbreaks are in these other countries he mentions: Europe, Canada and Mexico.
The outbreaks we have here are because the testing protcol in those countries, which are under very strict government surveillance, are not adequate, either in the industry, or by their own government. We then import those cattle based on a phoney report, and a clean bill of health, stamped by a foreign government official, and the disease is then spread here.
What the Bush administration is going to do, is really quite brilliant. They are listening to those who have a vested interest in their own cattle stock, and the testing regimes they will employ are those used by the cattle industry. That's what the report said, and Gary Myers is a fraud.
Imagine, the government actually listening to those who have the background, the education, and the vested interest in these industry proven testing protocols and marking systems. Plus, I secretly believe ole Gary just might be a vegan. Anybody know for sure?

Sadly, we have those inside our own country who wish this to happen, as well. I could go down the list. But, one person in particular made a statment once, that has stuck with me, since I heard her say it.
Madellene Albright, Bill Clinton's former Sec. of State once said: She believe the United States was too powerful, and that the more preferable situation would be a kind of "power-sharing" with other world powers.

OBAMACAN wrote on Jun 15, 2008 10:24 AM:In yesterday's posts, SDRaoul dishonestly rewrites history to try to claim that McCain was not involved in the scandalous activity for which Charles Keating went to jail.
Phoenix banker Keating was a major donor to McCain, and when Keating got caught up in the Lincoln Savings and Loan scandal, McCain made improper efforts to use undue influence on his behalf, meeting TWICE with federal regulators on the matter. Raoul dismisses this as "writing a letter on behalf of a constituent" whereas this is actually far beyond the pale - this is special favors for a large donor, and undue interference in the regulatory process. Oh, and how many billions in bailouts did that S&L crisis of the Reagan/Bush administrations end up costing us taxpayers?
In contrast, Obama has had NO involvement - zero, zippo - in the matters for which Rezko was involved. Raoul is desperate to make a nonexistent connection, but all he can come up with his that Rezko helped the Obamas buy a piece of property. Hello, he is a real estate developer! That is what real estate developers do! Raoul's best efforts at mud-slinging cannot find any evidence of Obama's involvement in Rezko wrongdoing.
Bottom line: Raoul still cannot find one reason why we should support McCain for Bush's third term. He cannot find anything positive to say about his own guy, so can only try to throw mud, even if he has to stir it up out of his own creations.
In contrast, Obama people eagerly talk about our guy's stable family history, Constitutional Law background sorely needed right now, and policy proposals to return to peace, prosperity and reform that McCain has embraced in the past, but has now flip-flopped away from in painful retreat.

His approval ratings went even higher than they'd been before, becuase so many Americans were sickened by the trumped up, partisan-driven clown show put on by the Republicans. Many of us know dishonesty when we see it and Clinton got a lot of support for being hounded. The House Democrats certainly do not want to give McCain a bump by doing anything as serious as impeachment. No, I will wait as the historians begin digging into the truth behind all the secrets of this administration and hope against hope that Americans learn something from the Cheney/Bush mob's actual behavior once the secrets are out. In the meantime, every moment Bush is in office provides reasons for more people to vote for Obama. That's better than a disgusting impeachment show.

No, it means you are a person of awesome achievement if, like BOTH Obamas, you are born to disadvantage (she from a poor area on the south side of Chicago, he to a free-wheeling single mother frequently uprooting family stability), and through personal achievement rather than help from Daddy you can parlay that into scholarships and grants and efforts by liberals to provide equality of opportunity (not outcomes) for those who show potential, and make something of yourself.
She ridicules this, while writing years of letters supporting George W. Bush who had everything given to him all his life, and parlayed that into a life of student frat-boy pranks, DUI and disorderly conduct arrests (at a football game no less, ya gotta really be wild), and a string of failures in business and leading our nation into the ruin of military and economic disaster.

Senator Allan Cranston of California did far more for Keating than McCain did. He took out and out bribes and paid the price on Election Day.
As "for question for raoul", is he serious? Does he really think that some dumb pollster knows more about Hispanic voting than I do?
Every Republican candidate for President who received 35 or more percent of the Hispanic vote since 1968 has won the Presidency. Only Carter an Clinton won during those 40 years.
The poll this week isn't even close to being accurate.
New York Hispanics -- Puerto Ricans and Dominicans vote more Democratic than blacks do. So, as they don't affect national returns they shouldn't even be polled. Florida's Cubans will deliver Florida.
Mexican Americans in Texas will vote higher than 30 percent for McCain but it wouldn't make any difference, as McCain will carry Texas anyway. The reverse is true in California.
The only place it might count is in New Mexico and they voted for Bush last time and love McCain.
Obama carried his home state Hispanics in Illinois against Clinton by ONE percent.
If McCain gets 35 or more percent of the Hispanic vote -- he will win. No Republican has ever lost when he carried 35% or more.
Let's see, in 2004 McCain ran for reelection and the Arizona Mexican American who is 80% Democrat gave McCain a 70 percent vote.
On top of it, Obama is viciously anti-Mexican and that is well known in Illinois, which is why he could only beat Hillary by one percent. Proof: Obama’s union paid for votes for poison pill amendments to the McCain-Kennedy bill that even Kennedy opposed.

Chris wrote on Jun 15, 2008 1:03 PM:The letter by Alexandra Cloney is typical of these Israeli supporters in that she just throws out a bunch of stuff and that makes Israel the victim. First of all the main point is that Israel should not be there at all, period. Britain promised the Arabs that if they would help defeat the Ottoman empire they would have Palestine to themselves. Instead Britain, wich is run by a bunch of liars just like the US told the Zionist the same thing. So Britain faciltated the Zionist in their takeover of part of Palestine. Cloney talks about how the Arabs rejected the two state solution. The land belonged to the Arabs so of course they didn't go along with this outside group, UN, telling them go give 53 percent to the Zionist. But of course Cloney tries to make it seem like the Arabs are the bad guys just because they would not accept the UN's decision to give away their land to the Zionist. Cloney talks about the wars against Israel since statehood. As I said before Israel had no right to be there and the wars were caused by the Arabs fighting against Israels takeing of more land and If the Arabs in 1948 had not interfered Israel might have taken over all of Palestine. As it was Israel expanded it's land aquisition from 53% to 78% during that war. Cloney talks about the Grand Mufti of Jeruselem meeting with Hitler. Well, since it was the British that was forcing the Zionist down the throat of the Arabs then when Hitler came along it was only natural for the Arabs to hope that Hitler would take care of the situation. Cloney say's Israel is our ally in the middle east. No, Israel is no friend of ours. They just use us for their own purposes. Just look at how they are flipping off Condoleezza Rice on this settlement issue. The point is that these Israel supporters have no defense but they throw out this stuff hopping the uninitiated will swallow their mischaracterization of the situation.

And you honestly believe the airlines wants their planes to fall out of the sky? LOL
I swear, you people how no clue... NO CLUE as to the "inspection" procedures by either the cattle industry, nor the airlines.
Less than 5% of all food, either grown inside the United States, or overseas is ever "inspected" by government inspectors. And Airline inspectors inspect their own planes based on inspection protocols from the manufacturer.
Our economic system is built upon trust, trust that you won't get sick, and trust that your plane won't fall out of the sky. Rarely is "the Government" ever involved.
Self regulation is the heart & soul of our economic system. And if you didn't know that, I just told you.
It's just like a lib to think the government knows more than the people who run a business. I mean... look at the results of all these failed social programs; Social Security, Medi-Care, Medi-Caid, Pension Guarntee Corp., Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac; you go down the list. How is it, that the Government can fail so many times, and yet.. we still have those who are true believers that they are the only one's who can step in and straighten everyone else out?
Let them cleam up their side of the street, then perhaps.. we might have a little more trust.
