Late, The Worker's lazy days

Wake up, shower, leave the house â€- it’s a typical daily routine for many. But for Jason Brady, the vocalist of Murrieta’s Late, The Worker, there was a time when these seemingly simple tasks posed quite a challenge for the musician. Thus, Late, The Worker, was born.

"The name, Late, The Worker, actually comes from a point in my life three or four years ago, when I didn’t go out much, and all I would do was sit at home and write music," Jason Brady said. "I was always up late, just working and perfecting my ideas; most of which are not even close to being finished. I just figured the name fit."

Made up of Temecula’s Sean Reno, Murrieta’s Jason Brady, and Wildomar’s Mike Greenlese, Late, The Worker, formed in January of 2008. The brainchild of Greenlese and Brady, who have played music with one another for over two years, however, was not complete until the addition of bass player Reno in late April.

"Mike and I played together in previous projects like Averyce and Carry On Polaroid," Brady said. "Together, we decided to start writing more mature songs. Once that task was complete, we were left with quite a bit of material, but didn’t have a bass player in order for us to start playing live. I asked my friend, Sean, if he wanted to come and play some music one day. He picked up the songs quickly, and added another element to our sound."

Late, The Worker plays Friday at Live! at The Merc in Old Town Temecula, along with Starving For Gravity. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show is open to all ages.

"Each of our songs is different in styling, but has a similar feel," Brady said. "I try to write songs where people won’t get bored. I use a lot of melody and harmony, as well as heavier parts that are more driving."

When it comes to lyrics, however, Brady goes the route that many follow, gaining inspiration from personal experiences.

"There are a lot of different things that people go through," Brady said. "I try to write things that people can relate to."

Many people can most certainly relate to scheduling difficulties, one of the main obstacles that the trio is constantly encountering. It sometimes makes it very difficult to find time to rehearse, being that we all work full-time."

While it may be difficult, Late, The Worker, who find themselves heavily influenced by the musical stylings of artists such as The Mars Volta, Interpol, and Radiohead, make it work. And now you can see them go to work ---- musically, that is ---- at Friday’s show.

"People can expect to hear and see music that is full of energy at times, and laid back at others," Brady said. "We all just love playing music so much; and playing for people is always a privilege. People can really just plan on seeing a band that loves everything about music."
