Chris Klich Jazz Quintet to perform

SAN MARCOS ---- The Chris Klich Jazz Quintet will perform as part of the city of San Marcos' 'Summer Concerts in the Gardens' series June 28 at the Wood House, 1148 Rock Springs Road.

Other concerts in the series are the Cash Kings (a tribute to the music of Johnny Cash) on July 26; The Corvettes (doo-wop and Motown music) on Aug. 16; and the Folk Collection (1960s folk music) on Aug. 23.

All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Bring low-back beach chairs or blankets for picnic seating. Desserts and beverages will be available for purchase.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at the San Marcos Community Center, 3 Civic Center Drive. Cost is $5; free for kids younger than 10. Season passes are available for $15. Call (760) 744-9000.

Movie night planned at Poway pool

POWAY ---- Families are invited to watch the feature film "Surf's Up" while swimming at the Poway Community Pool on June 28. The pool is in Poway Community Park, 13094 Civic Center Drive.

The movie will be shown at dusk on a giant movie screen. Bring rafts, inner tubes or Boogie Boards to view the movie while in the pool. Bleacher seating also will be available. The pool will be open from 7:30-10:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at the pool office in advance or at the door. Cost is $3 per child, $4 per adult or $12 per family (up to five people). Call (858) 668-4680.

LSM community garage sale set

LAKE SAN MARCOS ---- The Lake San Marcos community will hold a garage sale from 7 a.m.-noon June 28. With more than 100 residents participating, items for sale will include antiques, tools, housewares, artwork, fishing gear and furniture. Maps and signs will be placed throughout the community, which is off of Rancho Santa Fe Road.

Concert series continues with Blue Largo

Rebuild open house set for June 29

RANCHO BERNARDO ---- After last October's wildfires claimed 14 homes in the Rancho Bernardo neighborhood of East View, 10 of the 14 homeowners decided to go with one builder, Miltco Inc., to accommodate their rebuilding needs.

Just four months after construction began, nine of the 10 homes are nearly complete, and some families will be able to move back in next month.

To celebrate this progress, Miltco Inc. will hold an open house from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. June 29 at 17788 Bellechase Circle. Food and refreshments will be provided. Homeowners who are in the process of rebuilding will be on hand to talk about their experience.

Partners of Palomar Salon to serve breakfast

ESCONDIDO ---- Partners of Palomar Salon 621 will host its Fifth Sunday of the Month Breakfast from 7:30-10:30 a.m. June 29 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 230 Park Ave.

The menu will be eggs to order, hash browns, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fruit, juice and coffee for a $6 donation.

Proceeds benefit programs that help children with cystic fibrosis and lung and respiratory ailments. Donations are sent to the National Jewish Medical & Research Center in Denver to help with research to find a cure for these illnesses.

Gustavo Bulgach and Klezmer Juice to perform

POWAY ---- Clarinetist Gustavo Bulgach and his band Klezmer Juice will perform at 6 p.m. June 29 in the courtyard at the Poway Library, 13137 Poway Road.

The free concert is part of the San Diego County Library's World Music & Cultural Arts series. The performance is in partnership with the San Diego Repertory Theatre.

Bulgach's Grammy-nominated band includes musicians on saxophone, bass and drums. Now based in Los Angeles, the bandleader grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with its vibrant Jewish culture. Of Russian descent, Bulgach's unique style represents a new generation of hip young Klezmer artists, combining the soulful sounds of the traditional Klezmer clarinet with the passionate rhythms of Latin American salsa and dance music.

The band plays to audiences worldwide, and is often recognized from its appearance in the opening scene of the movie "The Wedding Crashers," performing the song "Hava Nagila."

Seating will be provided; attendees are welcome to bring beach chairs. Reservations not required.

Bilingual book club to meet

ESCONDIDO ---- The Escondido Public Library's bilingual book discussion group, Rincon Literario (The Literary Corner), will meet at 7 p.m. June 30 in the Turrentine Room at the main library, 239 S. Kalmia St. This month's book selection is "En Busca de Bernabe" ("In Search of Bernabe") by Graciela Limon.

Miriam Ruvinskis, literary scholar, facilitates this monthly meeting, exploring Latin American literature, its themes, characters, history and authors. Discussions are conducted in Spanish and English.

Book titles for July, August and September meetings include "Lluvia de Oro" ("Rain of Gold") by Victor Villasenor; "Loro en el Horno: Mi Vida" ("Parrot in the Oven: Mi Vida") by Victor Martinez; and "La Travesia de Enrique" ("Enrique's Journey") by Sonia Nazario. SuperCamps for youths offered at CSUSM

SAN MARCOS ---- SuperCamp, an academic and life skills program for youths ages 9-19, will be offered this summer at Cal State San Marcos.

Campers live in dorms on campus during the seven to 10-day camps. Also available is a parent weekend where parents can gain insight into what their children are learning during SuperCamp, as well as gain communication and relationship-building skills.

Senior Service Council seeks volunteers

ESCONDIDO ---- The Senior Service Council of Escondido is an all-volunteer organization that provides many services for senior citizens, including income tax preparation, legal advice, job referrals, computer training, assistance with government programs and support groups. Arthritis Foundation aquatic classes offered

ESCONDIDO ---- Redwood Elderlink offers an Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program at its heated indoor pool. Classes are held throughout the week and offer gentle stretching and toning exercises; no swimming skills needed. Instructors are trained and certified by the Arthritis Foundation.
