REGION: Forest road report due out
By North County Times | ∞
RANCHO BERNARDO ---- U.S. Forest Service officials say they intend to release a report on Thursday that examines the environmental impacts of their plan to add seven to 12 miles of roads and trails in the Cleveland National Forest.
The plan, unveiled in January, proposes to expand the forest's system of roads open to highway-legal vehicles and trails open to off-road vehicles.
Once a plan is adopted, the service plans to publish a map identifying which roads are open to what kind of activity. Public comments will be taken on the plan through Aug. 13.
The forest covers 460,000 acres in San Diego, Riverside and Orange counties.
Comments may be mailed or hand-delivered to the forest's headquarters in Rancho Bernardo to: Anne Carey, recreation officer, 10845 Rancho Bernardo Road, Suite 200, San Diego, CA 92127.
Comments may be faxed to: (858) 673-6192.
Or they may be e-mailed to: r5_cleveland_ohv_suggestions@fs.fed.us.
Open-house meetings on the plan and report are scheduled for Thursday, July 17, in Ramona, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Palomar Ranger District office, 1634 Black Canyon Road, and on July 28 in Corona, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Trabuco Ranger District office, 1147 E. Sixth St.
