Elks host bingo games
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Lake Elsinore Elks Lodge hosts weekly Thursday night bingo games at Trevi Entertainment Center. Doors open at 4 p.m. and warm-ups are at 6.

Marine Corps League to gather

History group offers library
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Lake Elsinore Historical Society opens its museum and research library to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and 1 to 3 p.m. the fourth Sunday of the month.
The facility also schedules visitation from school groups, clubs and associations.

Radio club to meet
TEMECULA ---- The Golden Triangle Amateur Radio Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Rancho California Water District.
Bob Grimmick will talk about his Dxpedition to Clipperton Atol, a tiny uninhabited atoll in the eastern tropical North Pacific under French rule.
Dxpedition is the term used when amateur radio operators visit exotic locations.
Grimmick led a team of 21 operators from the United States, France, Canada and Martinique to Clipperton Atol, which is high on the most wanted list for ham radio operators.

Model railroad club plans first meeting
SUN CITY ---- Model railroad enthusiasts are invited to meet with the newly formed Sun City Model Railroad Club at 10 a.m. Aug. 5 in the West Room in the Del Webb Hall.
Organizers will discuss the needs of the club, set goals designed to help model railroaders with their layout, share what takes place at the model railroad train shows and share where model railroaders can purchase supplies.
The club will meet the first Tuesday of the month at 26850 Sun City Blvd.

Rotary club plans annual concert
TEMECULA ---- The Temecula Sunrise Rotary Club will present its sixth annual Vineyard Sunset musical event, Super Diamond, a tribute to Neil Diamond, on Aug. 30 at Wilson Creek Winery.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for socializing and sampling of Wilson Creek wines. The concert will begin at 7 p.m.
Tickets prices are: Preferred seating, $60; general admission, $45; and students, $41. Tickets for the concert and a gourmet three-course dinner cost $113.

Proceeds from the concert are designated for Rotary charities, scholarships and the club's Safety Town program, a week-long program designed to teach children about safety, which is being held through Aug. 1.
The Temecula Sunrise Rotary Club has presented more than $200,000 in scholarships to students in Temecula since its founding 21 years ago. The club also has a literacy program at the third-grade level and supports clean water efforts and PolioPlus as its international projects.

Businesswomen plan meeting
SUN CITY ---- The American Business Women's Association's Inland Valley Council will host a seminar titled "Garden Party 2008" at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 9 at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
The networking event will feature a continental breakfast and speakers Judy Parker and JoAnn Osby, the association District VI vice president.

Elks collecting donations
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Lake Elsinore Elks are seeking donations for their annual Christmas Tree Lane.
The Dec. 6 event is the club's largest annual fundraiser, with proceeds going to scholarship.
Themed trees are decorated to be worth $1,000 each, then are raffled off.

Think Tank expanding
TEMECULA ---- The Think Tank group that meets twice weekly for brainstorming and problem solving is expanding its offerings.
The group meets at 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Carl's Jr. on Ynez and Winchester roads to discuss just about any subject except politics and religion.
The group also offers a manual arts foundation to train teenagers and is now looking for volunteers for a visiting angels program to visit veterans in convalescent facilities.

Botanic Gardens to host Twilight Tours
RIVERSIDE ---- The UC Riverside Botanic Gardens has scheduled two Twilight Tours, guided excursions of the gardens in the cool of a summer evening.
The first tour will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.
The UCR Botanic Gardens cover nearly 40 acres and feature more than 3,500 plant species from around the world.
The second tour will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 5.
The donation for each tour is $5 per person for Friends of UCRBG members or $7 for others.

Pop Warner plans kickoff event
MURRIETA ---- Murrieta Valley Pop Warner will hold its second annual kickoff event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 16 at Los Alamos Hills Sports Park.
Admission is free. Wristbands will be available for $10, which allows access to several inflatable games, such as a rock climbing wall, jousting ring, slides and obstacle courses.
The NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition will also be held during the day.

Adult softball leagues forming

'Coffee From Home' campaign under way
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf chain of coffee and tea stores is asking consumers to purchase coffee, tea or retail merchandise to donate to overseas troops as part of its "Support from Home" campaign.
Through Aug. 31, the product will be discounted by 10 percent and the purchase will be sent overseas to military personnel.
During the campaign, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf will sell "Support from Home," a limited-edition special blend of coffee designed with a blank label that will allow consumers to write a personalized message to soldiers.
