CHARGERS: Receiver Parker is released

The Chargers released receiver Eric Parker on Wednesday. North County Times file photo. SAN DIEGO ---- The Chargers parted ways with receiver Eric Parker on Wednesday morning, releasing the seven-year veteran, according to his agent, Jack Bechta.
Parker, 29, missed all of the 2007 season because of a toe injury and became expendable after the acquisition of veteran Chris Chambers from Miami. In addition, the team drafted receivers Craig Davis and Legedu Naanee in the 2007 draft, creating a logjam at the position on a team with few open roster spots.
The Chargers had given Bechta permission to shop Parker in hopes of finding a team that would give up a late-round draft pick for Parker's services. But no such deal could be worked out as teams were aware the Chargers would likely cut Parker before Friday's first full-squad practice.
Parker caught 187 career passes for the Chargers, compiling 2,586 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had a career-high 57 receptions in 2005 and caught 152 passes over a three-year span from 2004-06.
But he injured his right big toe in a minicamp practice in June 2007 and underwent surgery two months later to repair a cracked sesamoid bone. It was originally hoped he would return to action in October but the toe didn't heal sufficiently.

It'd be nice if all drafted players worked and had heart like you.
Good luck to you, hopefully in the NFC.
Boltum wrote on Jul 23, 2008 3:15 PM:Parker just is not Smith's kind of player,,, hardest worker on the team, plays for peanuts, Rivers go to guy! Besides Parker is not as good as Floyd, Osgood and Busted. Face it fans, no way Buster beats out Parker for #3 so he has to go for A.J. to save face for his #1 reach pick last year. Sad day in Chargerland!

Smith has to be thinking how resign Rivers, Cro, Merriman,Mc Neill, Igor, by cutting loose EP,beside WR corps is loaded Chambers, VJ, Legedu, Buster Davis, Osgood, Malcom and newly sign PUNT RETURNER Mark Jones, i do agree on its sad to see go EP cause in deed hes truly a class act and a real hared worker, best wishes

Thanks EP, good luck!!!
