SAFE adds two to board

TEMECULA ---- Nancy Stephenson and Diane Bainbridge have been added to the advisory board for Safe Alternatives for Everyone.

Stephenson works for NLS Insurance Services and Bainbridge for Chicago Title.

Businesswomen plan meeting

SUN CITY ---- The American Business Women's Association's Inland Valley Council will host a seminar titled "Garden Party 2008" at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Menifee Valley Medical Center.

The networking event will feature a continental breakfast and speakers Judy Parker and JoAnn Osby, the association District VI vice president.

Lost records topic for genealogists

TEMECULA ---- Wendy Elliott will speak about "Burned County Courthouses ---- Alternate Sources" when the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society meets from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Monday at the Temecula Library.

Those doing genealogical research often encounter the problem of lost courthouse records, most commonly because of fire. Elliott, a history professor at Cal State Fullerton, will discuss alternatives.

The meeting will be preceded by a genealogy class at 5:30 p.m. The topic will be Windows basics, presented by Bill Schneider, the leader of the society's Computer Users' Group.

Civitan club meets Monday

TEMECULA ---- Civitan, a community service organization that raises funds through community work to help youth clubs and organizations, will meet Monday.

Vets group helps with forms

TEMECULA ---- Veterans of Foreign Wars will offer assistance to veterans and their families in filling out forms and filing for programs such as disability, rehabilitation, education, pension, death benefits and employment Aug. 14.

The assistance is offered from 10 a.m to 2:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Temecula Valley VFW Post 4089, 28075 Diaz Road.

Women's club joins relay

LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Elsinore Woman's Club has joined in the effort to help organize the sixth annual American Cancer Society's Relay for Life at the Canyon Lake Middle School.

The 24-hour event will start at 9 a.m. Oct. 1.

Elsinore Woman's Club earned two trophies and several first place certificates last year.

TEMECULA ---- Musicians Workshop is registering students of all ages and abilities for a multitude of performing arts and music programs.

Mayor's ball has Hollywood theme

TEMECULA ---- The Arts Council of Temecula Valley will hold "Hurrah for Hollywood," the mayor's ball for the arts, from 6 to 11 p.m. Sept. 6 at Temecula Creek Inn.

The event will feature the Robert Holtz Orchestra, Guilty Conscience Band and Memories dance/swing group.

Patti Drew will receive the fourth annual Temecula Valley Lifetime Achievement award for contributions to the arts.

Guests can dress as film stars as they walk the red carpet and dine at movie-themed tables.

Tickets cost $100. Proceeds benefit arts education programs for children in the Temecula Valley.

Craft vendors wanted

TEMECULA ---- Craft vendors are wanted for the 11th annual Craft Faire of the Temecula United Methodist Church, to be held Oct. 11 at the church

More than 60 vendors participate each year. Only quality hand-crafted items are accepted. A book and bake sale also will be featured, and a continental breakfast and lunch will be available.

All proceeds are used to assist local community mission projects.

Sports center offers drop-in volleyball

TEMECULA ---- Rancho Sports Center is offering open gym volleyball for teens and adults Friday evenings, providing six courts for pick-up games.

Host families needed for students

Host families are needed to house foreign exchange students who are coming to the United States for the 2008-09 school year.

Tourney benefits scholarship fund

TEMECULA ---- The fourth annual Aerotek & Freedom Alliance Charity and Networking Golf Tournament will be played Sept. 19 at Redhawk Golf Course.

The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund was established to honor troops in the armed forces who were injured or killed by providing college scholarships to their children. 

The event will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Competitions will include closest to pin, straightest drive and longest drive.    

The cost is $175, which includes green fees, cart, range balls, breakfast and lunch.
