MENIFEE: School district sees decline in enrollment

MENIFEE ---- School district officials this week reported a 4.5 percent decline in enrollment so far this school year compared to last.
The Menifee Union School District serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade, and 8,517 students were enrolled as of Thursday, according to a district report.
Of the district's schools, Bell Mountain Middle School in Menifee has the highest enrollment with 1,511 students, and Quail Valley Elementary has the lowest enrollment with 590 students.
Enrollment had been projected to grow slightly this year, but that projection was revised downward several times in recent months, Assistant Superintendent Gil Compton said. The number of students probably will increase somewhat in the coming weeks, as some parents new to the area might not that classes have already begun, officials said.
