Local PI to appear on TV
TEMECULA ---- A local private investigator can be seen on the air solving cold cases.
Michele Dawn, owner of Rancho Attorney Service of California in Temecula, appears on "F.L.I.P. Mysteries: Women on the Case," a show that originally aired on Aug. 6, but is scheduled to repeat at 10 p.m. Friday on the WE Channel.
F.L.I.P., stands for Female Legal & Investigative Professionals, a team of women who work together online to track clues and solve cases across the county.
In the premiere episode featuring Dawn, her team cracks a Baltimore cold-case that revolves around a mysterious murder of a women and a T-shirt found at the scene. The team identifies the victim from the details on the shirt, which helps the Baltimore Police Department renew its efforts to solve what is now clearly a homicide.
Ice cream shop collecting food
TEMECULA ---- A canned food drive benefitting food pantries in Temecula and Murrieta is being held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Haagen-Dazs at The Promenade.
Those who donate a can of food may purchase a scoop of ice cream for a discounted price of $2.

Music series begins
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Elsinore Valley Arts Network's 10th annual Music With a View summer concert series will open Saturday with Doc Rock-It & the Radio Fliers, playing vintage rock, soul and rhythm and blues.
Free concerts will be from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturdays in McVicker Park until Sept. 6.
The rest of the schedule is: Aug. 23 ---- Brian Lynn James and The Misfit Cowboys, country music; Aug. 30 ---- Jason Weber Band; and Sept. 6, Inland Valley Symphony, preceded by a "petting zoo" where children can see instruments up close.

Center offers speaker, concert
SUN CITY ---- Motivational speaker Cindy Ashton will lead a workshop from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Center for Spiritual Living.
The workshop will bridge the gap between wanting to live and finding the courage within to take positive steps.
Tickets are $25.
The center also will be the site of a concert by Anton Mizerak and Michael Mandrell at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26.

Young musicians to perform
TEMECULA ---- The Musician's Workshop youth orchestra will perform Sunday as a precursor to the upcoming Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival.
The performance will be from 4 to 7 p.m. by the gazebo at Tower Plaza Shopping Center
The orchestra and soloists will perform movie themes, as well as classic and contemporary pieces.
The 14th Annual Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival will be held Sept. 17 to 21 Sept. 21 at the Movie Experience Theaters. The festival will screen more than 150 films, showcase independent music artists, honor film and music icons and host more than 300 visiting filmmakers and music artists.

Author to discuss formation of county
MURRIETA ---- Local author and historian Steve Lech will give a free presentation on the formation of Riverside County at 1 p.m. Aug. 23 at Murrieta Public Library.
Lech also will sell and autograph his book, "Along the Old Roads: A History of the Portion of Southern California that Became Riverside County."

Car show next week in Lake Elsinore
LAKE ELSINORE ---- Rag Top Day and Back to the '50s will be the theme when the Downtown Merchants Association hold its monthly car show Aug. 23 in downtown Lake Elsinore.

City offers trip to ball game
TEMECULA ---- The Community Services Department is offering a trip to see the Padres play the Arizona Diamondbacks on Aug. 25 at Petco Park.
The cost is $40, which includes field level tickets, transportation and a snack.
The excursion will depart from the Temecula Community Center at 5 p.m. The game starts at 7:05 p.m.

Middle schoolers to visit Japan
TEMECULA ---- The Temecula Sister City Association will hold an introduction meeting to explain a spring 2009 trip to Daisen-Nakayama, Japan from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at Margarita Middle School.
The trip is open to all middle school students in Temecula, but is limited to 13 travelers.
The meeting will explain the selection process and introduce group leader Keri Vogtmann.

Job seeking workshop offered
LAKE ELSINORE ---- Workshops on preparing resumes and job interviewing will be offered at Lake Elsinore Library.
A free resume workshop will be held 10 a.m. Aug. 30, when a speaker from the Lake Elsinore Chamber of Commerce will discuss how to make a resume grab the attention of the right person.
Tips on interviewing for jobs will be given in a workshop at 10 a.m. Sept. 6. Participants will learn the questions to ask and answers to give to commonly asked interview queries.

Memory improvement topic of workshop
LAKE ELSINORE ---- "Learn the Secrets of Memory Improvement" is the title of a workshop that will be offered at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at Lake Elsinore Senior Center.
Debbi Harper will discuss what causes memory lapses and give tips to prevent memory loss that include exercise and nutrition.

Country Club Crowd offers deal
The Country Club Crowd, a singles group for people 55 and older, is offering a fall special to recruit members.
Those who join in August will pay $18 for the remainder of the year.
The Country Club Crowd participates in events such as dinners, theater, golf, bowling, travel, dancing and game nights.

Softball leagues need players
MENIFEE ---- Male and female softball players are needed for leagues that play at Wheatfield Park.

Volunteer opportunities exists for a variety of educational programs and patient service programs, including office support, phone work with cancer patients and their families, educational work with schools and work sites and community education. Volunteer hours are flexible.

Pauline Strickland can assist people with information on assistive technology, hearing aids and cochlear implants, one-on-one peer counseling, support groups, information on different communication styles and how to cope with hearing loss in family and work environments.

Vaccination clinic, half-price adoptions Saturday
LAKE ELSINORE ---- Animal Friends of the Valleys holds monthly vaccination clinics from 1 to 3:30 p.m. the third Saturday of each month at City park.
Cats should be brought in carriers in dogs on leashes for low-cost vaccinations and licensing.
The park is at 243 S. Main St.
Saturday is also International Homeless Animals Day, and to commemorate that, Animal Friends is offering half-price adoptions.
Included in the fee is a microchip, vaccinations, collar, identification tag and veterinary checkup.
