EDITORIAL: 760 area code change reminder
OUR VIEW: Let your area code views be known
By North County Times Opinion staff | ∞
A reminder: Time is short for those North County residents who wish to voice their views on the California Public Utilities Commission's decision to split the 760 telephone area code into two parts, with this region being assigned a 442 number.
The state panel is accepting comments until Tuesday; public hearings are set for Wednesday, Sept. 3, in Victorville and Thursday, Sept. 4, in Carlsbad.
State Sen. Mark Wyland of Escondido, Assemblyman Martin Garrick of Solana Beach and others have taken leading roles in seeking the panel's reconsideration.
The e-mail address for the utilities commission published Tuesday was incorrect. The correct one, public.advisor@cpuc.ca.gov, is below.
As we noted Tuesday, it is rare to get a government "do-over." So if you wish to speak out, do so next week.

WE WANT AN OVERLAY, NOT A SPLIT.
Bill wrote on Sep 17, 2008 10:56 PM:A split is easier in the long run, an overlay means you will have to dial 11 digits for all local calls forever. You will need to dial 1 plus the area code plus the 7 digit number for all calls. You will dial 11 digits anywhere in the area codes 760 and 442. That's something that seems to be kept secret on the front page of the no442 website. It's really not fair to leave out important info such as this.
