PAL to host breakfast, car wash

TEMECULA --- Safe Alternatives for Everyone and Temecula/Murrieta Police Activities League will hold a pancake breakfast and car wash from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Temecula Community Center.

The cost is $5 each for the pancake breakfast or car wash. All proceeds will benefit the PAL boxing team and other activities.

Job seeking workshop offered

LAKE ELSINORE ---- Workshops on preparing resumes and job interviewing will be offered the next two Saturdays at Lake Elsinore Library.

A free resume workshop will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, when a speaker from the Lake Elsinore Chamber of Commerce will discuss how to make a resume grab the attention of the right person.

Tips on interviewing for jobs will be given in a workshop at 10 a.m. Sept. 6. Participants will learn the questions to ask and answers to give to commonly asked interview queries.

Advanced registration is required for both workshops by visiting the library at 600 W. Graham Ave. or calling 674-4517.

Concert series comes to end

MURRIETA --- The annual free Concerts in the Park at Town Square will conclude Saturday when the D'Santi Band performs classic rock at 6 p.m. at Town Square Amphitheater.

The Movies in the Park Series will start Sept. 6 with "Shrek the Third" and conclude Sept. 20 with "Hairspray." Movies start at dusk.

A mobile Park N' Play will be on hand to entertain the children before the concert and movies. Participants should bring chairs or a blanket.

Auditions set for 'Christmas Carol'

TEMECULA ---- Temecula Valley Players will hold auditions for the musical "A Christmas Carol" Sunday and Tuesday at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater. Registration will begin at 6 p.m.

Auditioners must come prepared to dance and sing and should bring prerecorded music accompaniment or sheet music.

Music series continues

LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Elsinore Valley Arts Network's 10th annual Music With a View summer concert series will continue Saturday with Brian Lynn James and The Misfit Cowboys playing country music.

The free concerts will be from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in McVicker Park.

The final concert will be Sept. 6, when the Inland Valley Symphony performs, preceded by a "petting zoo" where children can see instruments up close.

Tango classes begin next week

TEMECULA ----Tango dance classes will be offered Wednesday or Thursday evenings, beginning this next week.

Old Salts to hear about CARE

SUN CITY ---- Janet Hale, a coordinator of the Riverside County Department of Public Social Services CARE Program, will be the speaker when the Old Salts Chapter of the Merchant Marine Veterans of World War II meets at noon Thursday at Boston Billie's Restaurant.

The Curtailing Abuse Related to the Elderly program provides education to assist in the prevention of financial abuse and consumer fraud.

Tourney to aid families of troops

TEMECULA ---- A golf tournament to raise funds for families of soon-to-be redeployed troops will be played Sept. 5 at Temecula Creek Inn.

The tournament will benefit Temecula's adopted 1st Marine battalion, which will leave in October for its fifth deployment to Iraq in five years.

The cost is $150 per player. Donors may sponsor a Marine to play for the same cost, which includes golf, a cart, contests, lunch and dinner.

The scramble tournament will tee off at 11:30 a.m.

Center offers concert, food, wine

TEMECULA ---- Rancho Temecula Town Center will host an evening of free music by rock band Tommy Tutone and food and wine tastings from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 6.

Tommy Tutone is best known for its 1982 hit "867-5309/Jenny."

Free food samples will be provided by the center's restaurants and food businesses and wine tasting will be provided by several local wineries.

There also will be gifts and prizes, including certificates to businesses in the center and an electric guitar autographed by Tommy Tutone.

Rancho Temecula Town Center is at Nicholas and Winchester roads, across from Chaparral High School.

Day of Wine and Chocolate tickets available

TEMECULA ---- Pastry chefs and chocolatiers will offer their sweet sensations in concert with wines from Temecula Valley's wineries at Hospice of the Valley's 12th annual "A Day of Wine and Chocolate" fundraiser. The event will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at Wilson Creek Winery.

Music will be provided by Guilty Conscience. There will be silent and live auctions for items such as a private catered dinner utilizing chocolate in the salad, entree and dessert courses.

Tickets are $50 in advance and $75 at the door. Picnic lunches provided by The Forge are available for an additional fee.

Wildomar seniors to gather

Tea, fashion show planned at center

SUN CITY ---- A high tea and fashion show will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Kay Ceniceros Senior Center.

Burke's Outlet in Sun City will provide the fashions, featuring 20 outfits for children, teens, adults and seniors.

The event, sponsored by Family Service Association, also will include door prizes and a pianist. Tea sandwiches will be served with scones, petit fours, lemon bars and fresh fruit. Volunteers will be dressed in tuxedos to assist serving tea.

The cost is $20 per person in advance, or $25 at the door. It's $10 for children 11 and younger. All proceeds benefit the Ceniceros Center.

The center offers programs and services such as senior nutrition, exercise, recreational and special events. They recently started game days that include table games and the Wii Fit video game.

Group offers services, bingo

SUN CITY ---- Sun City Concern Inc., a community-supported service for Sun City and surrounding areas, offers services such as information and assistance, referrals to community services, outreach programs, telephone reassurance and gatekeeper programs, trips and bingo.

Bingo is held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at Kay Ceniceros Senior Center, 29995 Evans Road. Registration begins at 12:45 p.m. and the pot is $100.

Senior center seeking volunteers

LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Lake Elsinore Senior Center needs volunteers of all ages who are willing to commit to helping out a few hours each week.

Training will be provided. Volunteers receptionists are needed as on weekday afternoons to greet people, provide information and provide assistance for various programs.

Volunteers teachers also are being recruited to share their skills with senors.

Companion program seeks volunteers

The Central County United Way's Senior Companion and Retired and Senior Volunteer programs are looking for volunteers.

Senior companions assist isolated and homebound adults with daily living tasks, helping to maintain independence. Training will be provided and seniors who qualify and can commit to 20 hours each week will earn a tax-free stipend and meal and mileage reimbursement.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program helps in numerous locations in the region.

The Central County United Way serves part of Southwest County, including Menifee and Sun City.

Fitness expo to benefit Oak Grove

MURRIETA ---- The Temecula Fitness Expo Sunday at Wal-Mart will benefit Oak Grove Center for Education, Treatment and The Arts.

The event, hosted by P&R Foundation in association with Iron Taekwondo and Wal-Mart, will include martial arts and other fitness demonstrations, as well as a blood drive hosted by the Blood Bank of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.

The purpose of the event is to promote fitness in the Temecula Valley and to raise money for Oak Grove fitness programs.

Blood pressure clinic planned at center

LAKE ELSINORE ---- A free blood pressure clinic will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lake Elsinore Senior Center.

Hospital offers volunteer classes

SUN CITY ---- Valley Health System will hold a volunteer orientation class from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at Menifee Valley Medical Center.

The minimum age to volunteer is 16.

CPR classes set for Sept. 6

CPR and first aid classes will be offered in Temecula and Murrieta on Sept. 6.

Classes for adult, child and infant CPR and first aid will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Mary Phillips Senior Center in Temecula.

Two-year certification cards will be issued upon completion of the classes. CPR and first aid can be taken together or as separate classes. Individual classes cost $35 and the combined class is $60, plus a materials fee of $15 or $20.

Pediatric first aid and CPR courses will be offered by the Murrieta Valley Unified School District Parent Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Back class to benefit dog

WILDOMAR ---- Mary Louise Muller, co-author of "Energy Exercises," the definitive book on Polarity Therapy movement, will teach a Healthy Back class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at A Balanced Body Center.

A suggested donation of $20 is asked with proceeds going toward insulin and veterinary care for Rosie, a 10-year-old retriever shepherd mix who has just been diagnosed with diabetes. Rosie lives with Murrieta massage therapist and yoga instructor Wendy Hammarstrom.

Muller has worked in the healing arts since 1970. The course will include self-help movements to create strength, flexibility and healthy structural relationship in the spine and pelvic girdle.

Chronic pain group meets

TEMECULA ---- A chronic pain support group meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays at Rancho Community Church.

Cancer Society offers transportation

The American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program provides transportation for cancer patients to and from medical/treatment appointments. Rides are provided by volunteer drivers who donate their time and the use of their personal vehicles.

The society is recruiting volunteers to drive patients, or to provide other forms of transportation assistance, such as gas cards.

Road to Recovery is offered to cancer patients who have no means of transportation and/or are too ill to drive themselves.

Volunteer driving requires a safe driving record and a serviceable vehicle. Proof of automobile insurance also is required.
