What's the worst Harry could do?
By: MEGAN RUSSELL -- Online Desk | ∞
The countdown to the last Harry Potter is stirring up a cauldron of hype and every news source ( including this one) is asking readers to submit their theories of how the final battle between Mr. Potter and He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named will end. I admit that I have my own (involves Harry being the final horcrux and giving the ultimate sacrifice to defeat ol' Voldemort). But I want to know what is the worst way that the boy with the bolt's story could end? Will he wake up and realize it was all a dream? Good God, I hope not. Muggles, have at it!

To Megan wrote on Jul 26, 2007 6:13 PM:Why are you looking for the "worst" way the story could end? One of the nicest things about the Harry Potter stories is their encouragement of reading. More books have been sold (and you could imply that they've been sold to readers) in history. That's grand. People buy books, 700 pages plus for some volumes, in this age of electronic communication. Now that is news. Come up with a different topic, a more timely one, and ask, perhaps, why we're so enthralled with Harry Potter? It's telling that there are only two comments on this suggested topic. SDG&E's powerlink has generated more interest.

chris wrote on Jul 29, 2007 6:22 PM:wow, way to suck all the fun out of this blog "to megan". Try not to be so serious, its a kid's book. No one is questioning the success of this series or its ability to make people want to read. This blog was just fun speculation for fans. For instance i feel that the worst way it could end is to actually have harry be offically dead since this is still a kid's book. We all need heros.
Rick wrote on Aug 4, 2007 12:13 PM:Harry goes to the "dark side" after finding out that Dumbledore faked his own death to join Voldemart, he then turns during the final battle, killing both Ron and Hermione. Ron's family is carted off to Azkehban, and the Durlsey's are put in charge of Hogwarts, banning all things magical. (sorry for the spelling, I just wrote this quick). Fun idea though; thanks Megan (boo to those that are soooo negative on these blogs).
To Megan Redux wrote on Aug 4, 2007 2:41 PM:Well, Megan, sorry to suck the fun out of the blog. Looks like only one "kid" answered your question. Still think a new topic is better -- what are you reading this summer? Why? Do you use the public libraries? Where do you get your books? Amazon? There's so many possibilities for fun, rather than NC blogs.
Megan Russell wrote on Aug 8, 2007 3:35 PM:Guess some are not Potter fans :) Don't know if Rick is a kid, maybe a kid at heart. To answer the Aug. 4 question, I read the latest Harry Potter, which I bought from Barnes and Noble. I heard that many libraries had an extensive waiting list and since I am a big fan of the series, I wanted to read the book as soon as possible. Currently reading "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance." Since you asked, I sometimes buy books from Barnes & Noble, but more often trade and borrow from friends. And I am always open to ideas for the entertainment blog, so feel free to suggest new topics.
To Megan wrote on Aug 17, 2007 12:50 PM:Geez, it's the hot August season, the politicans are fleeing DC like rats leaving a sinking tv show, and it's 102 degrees in the shade, and there are no more Harry Potter books. The best thing I've read since then is Barbara Kingsolver's "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" which is a real eye opener about the true cost of food we eat. A really good reason to shop locally. Farmers Markets are really interesting and entertaining. We like visiting independent bookstores -- they are so few and far between. There's one in Julian, but mostly older books, still of interest, like "Zen and the Art", Del Mar, etc., but it's different than B&N/Starbucks crowd. Now that's entertainment. The fashions at Kmart in Ramona are entertaining, especially this time of year, mixing stripes and plaids, in August -- the cat food is cheaper there than Ralphs or Vons, so stock up if you're in the neighborhood. The library there took little notice of Harry. Sigh.
