"O" really?
| ∞
We've all seen the golden touch Oprah yields. She likes a book -- boom! Bestseller. She says a foot cream is one of her "favorite things" -- sold out in a day. So how far-reaching is the "O" factor? Could it get another famous "O" the Democratic nomination?
Perhaps I'm oversimplifying demographics, but could Oprah's Obama love pull enough women away from Hillary to get him across the finish line first?

O Yes! wrote on Nov 29, 2007 10:41 AM:Was Bush ready? By what qualifications did voters use to elect him? It certainly wasn't his intelligence! Mr. Obama is qualified and is as worthy of this Office as any other candidate! Had Ms. Winfrey supported any other candidate, what would be the reaction?
Roberto1 wrote on Nov 29, 2007 10:50 AM:Best ticket IMHO is Hillary Prez & Obama (inexperienced and no track record) Vice President. With Hillary we not only get experience but the guy that sometimes sleeps with her didn't do a bad job either. As for Obama, maybe next time.
Hmmm wrote on Nov 29, 2007 8:29 PM:Would this even be an issue if Oprah was backing a republican? Typical spin to REACH to find something wrong . Obama would be the breath of fresh air this country needs but REPUBLICANS keep throwing the race card out there by saying those who vote for him would be doing so because of his race! Same with Hillary being a woman. It's 2010 and we can't seem to get past this and these "cards" will continue to be thrown into any non white or female candidates faces in future elections if we allow these crooked tactics to be used.
Spiker wrote on Nov 30, 2007 10:27 AM:We are referring to a public that elected the backwoods duo that now sits in one the most powerful positions in the world. If Oprah says Obama is the man, then he must be. lol I am an educated white male and I have no problem with gender or ethic diversity in office. Those who elect on basis of color or gender need to look beyond to the person and determine what is best for this great country.
OhBoy wrote on Nov 30, 2007 1:33 PM:I know what it's like to be in a minority group -- I'm one of the few people that doesn't hang on every endorsement that Orpah makes. I was taught to think for myself, and again, although that clearly puts me in the minority, I think I'll just stick with it, thank you.

pdd wrote on Dec 3, 2007 10:56 AM:What kind of experience does Hillary have? none - she has only been exposed to whatever her husband did in the White House. How can anyone have respect for her when she couldn't even stand up for herself and keep her house in order when Prez Clinton was having all the affairs. She stayed with him due to politics and is willing to go along with pretty much anything that will get her elected. No respect for her I think America is sick and tired of the politicians and are looking for a fresh face with new direction whether Oprah backs them or not.
Amen to ppd wrote on Dec 3, 2007 1:05 PM:Excellent points!!! Well stated! Which brings us back to - "lack of qualifications"!
To Hmmm wrote on Dec 3, 2007 5:22 PM:What does this have to do with Republicans? Read the question again - slowly - before giving the typical liberal knee-jerk reaction.
pdd wrote on Dec 3, 2007 5:59 PM:Well "experience" sure isn't getting the job done now. Look at Congress all they do is argue Everything is a partisan issue. So I am not sure "experience' is the answer for me I would like to see some "new blood" in office So called experienced or not. The office has many many advisors. So far nothing is getting done - it would be nice to see a clean sweep. I think the American people are "fed up"and are looking for change.
Lori wrote on Dec 5, 2007 9:51 AM:As for Oprah's "recommendation"... I've learned over the years that Oprah's opinion isn't as important as she might think. She can endorse whatever she wants to - it doesn't mean it's the answer to all of our problems. As for Obama, I don't care what his race is, what is religion is, or his gender for that matter, I just don't think he "has the right stuff" for President. I don't think Hillary does either. We'll just have to wait and see how many people get "snowed" by the infatuation of politics. My biggest question: who will do what's best for our democratic process?! That's who I want in office.

my 2 cents wrote on Dec 7, 2007 4:16 PM:The sad thing is that Democrats worry about qualifications and whether somebody has the right stuff, etc. but Republicans only care about the candidate's religion and gun rights, etc., never mind their ability in foreign affairs. Please, stop fussing about Clinton when her husband had an affair! Look at her record as a Senator, how she handled the hostage thing in NH, etc.

Vista Resident wrote on Dec 9, 2007 10:37 PM:Oprah talks straight and she has a pure heart. So, I respect Oprah's opinion. When she said that Arnold was A-OK, I was somewhat reassured. I figure she knows these folks better than I do because she moves in their sphere of influence and power. It's also a bit of balance to have Oprah represent Obama since Clinton gets so much favorable press by the rich. The rich remember fondly former President Bill Clinton because he helped to get NAFTA passed.

What Qualifications wrote on Dec 11, 2007 11:28 AM:What Qualifications do any of the canidates have? Hillary and others sleeping with the man who was president. I dont think so! I think i will be changing my voter regrestration to democrat, at least ill be able to vote for the least of evils. And yes im 50+ male republican. Go Obama
Roberto1 wrote on Dec 11, 2007 8:16 PM:Hillary is qualified...she was already president by injection. We get her and her willie and by all accounts, is far better than what we have now.
Bree wrote on Dec 14, 2007 12:10 PM:The BIG O is Historically a bad judge of character- she was wrong about the author she brougt on her show that so shamelessly lied, she was wrong about the character of people she hired at her school for young girls (poor things), she was wrong about the Texas cattle ranchers, and she is wrong about Obama who is a ex druggie ... and she expects people to even consider her judgment now? Only the really ignorant would follow the blind blindly...

In my opinion, it means that Obama will be the next president. There are many, many women who wouldn't normally vote who do watch Oprah. You'll hear them say something like "I don't know much, but I do know that Oprah is usually right."
josie wrote on Dec 17, 2007 9:29 AM:Oprah has a very high opinion of herself. She is an entertainer not a politician. Her opinion is no better than anyone else.
KP wrote on Dec 17, 2007 8:07 PM:I think Oprah has a right to use her celebrity to support whomever she wishes, its her first endorsement ever so she obviously feels strongly about it. I would recommend that will read both of Obama's books, especially the first one. Character counts, yes, he tried drugs, he also realized he needed an education and after working his way through Occidental, Columbia and Harvard Law where he edited the prestigious Law Review, he chose to become a community organizer on the South side of Chicago. He could have had a multi six figure income straight out of Law School with a Wall Street or DC firm but he chose to work with people. AsI said, character counts.

This "Hot Topics" entry that shows on most pages is about as useful as the Yahoo/Hot Jobs links. Most of them are dead when clicked on. This stuff really needs to be looked at.
Lin wrote on Dec 26, 2007 11:15 AM:I have never voted for someone because I was told they were the best. I always use my own brain and determine who/what is best for our country. Just because someone has their own TV show doesn't make them ruler of your brain. I think Jay Leno is a super entertainer (and from what I've read, a great person), but I would not vote for someone just because he endorsed them. Come on people ~ USE YOUR OWN BRAINS AND VOTE RESPONSIBLY!
