VISTA ---- A 16-year-old who had taken his mother's car Saturday evening led police on a short, slow pursuit before running away on foot, a Sheriff's Department lieutenant said.
A deputy attempted to pull over a speeding car in the 300 block of North Melrose Avenue in Vista about 8:25 p.m., Lt. Anthony Ray said. The car slowed to about 25 mph, but did not yield.
The deputy followed the car to 379 North Melrose Ave., where it pulled into an apartment complex, slowing down even more but continuing through the parking lot, Ray said.
When the car finally stopped, a teenager got out and ran away.
The deputy followed on foot, and seven units responded for backup, but the boy was not immediately caught. In the meantime, one of the deputies traced the car to the teenager's mother. She said her 16-year-old son had taken the car without her permission, but she did not desire prosecution.
Deputies planned on talking to and possibly citing the boy at his house, Ray said.

She is telling her son, "it's ok honey to steal my car." Geesh, if he is going to steal his own Mother's car then what the heck is going to stop him from stealing a stranger's vehicle, someone he doesn't give a hoot about?
I don't know if his Mom is going to but this boy needs to be diciplined before he gets into more trouble.
