Bingo at Elks Lodge

Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program is highlight
CAMP PENDLETON ---- Skyhawks Composite Squadron 47 of the U.S. Civil Air Patrol will host an open house from 7-9 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Army Reserve Center, Building 201545 on Camp Pendleton. There will be displays and demonstrations about search and rescue, aerospace and the Cadet Program. With advice and assistance from CAP members at national, regional, state and local levels and the U.S. Air Force, cadets ages 12 and up are exposed to a structured program of aerospace education, leadership, physical fitness and moral and ethical values. Annual Crab and Rib Fest upcoming
OCEANSIDE ---- For the seventh year, the Rotary Club of Oceanside with the Pacific Marine Credit Union will hold its annual Crab and Rib Fest, which this year will benefit the Wounded Warrior Center at Camp Pendleton, Mission San Luis Rey and local needy families during the holiday season. The dinner will be held Sept. 12 in the Heritage Garden at the Mission San Luis Rey, 4050 Mission Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m. and food is served at 7. Crab is flown in fresh from Oregon on the day of the dinner. The meal includes clam chowder donated by the Beachbreak Cafe, rice and fresh baked bread donated by Cappazoli's, and cole slaw donated by the Jolly Roger. Beer and wine will also be available for sale. The Oceanside Society Orchestra will entertain. A fundraising drawing and silent action also will be held. Tickets are $35 in advance; $10 for ages 6-12 ; free for children 6 and younger. If any tickets are available at the door, they will be $40 for adults. Senior center has renter, homeowner assistance
OCEANSIDE ---- The last day to receive free renter and homeowner tax rebate assistance is Sept. 9 at the Oceanside Senior Center, 455 Country Club Lane. This service is provided from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Register at the front desk.
The last day to receive free Stimulus Package Rebate assistance is Sept. 25 at the same location. Assistance is provided from 9-11:30 a.m. Sept. 11 and 25. The actual deadline to file for the Stimulus Package is Oct. 15. Call for advance appointment. Call (760) 435-5250.
Japanese taiko music featured
OCEANSIDE ---- The Oceanside Public Library and the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library will open the Fall World Music Series with Japanese taiko music by the ON Ensemble. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Sunshine Brooks Theatre, 217 N. Coast Highway. Free parking is available in the Civic Center garage.
With Japanese drums at the foundation of its world music mix, ON Ensemble takes the ancient instruments of taiko into new realms. Infusing powerful rhythms of Japanese drumming with influences ranging from hip hop to Tuvan throat singing, ON Ensemble's unique sound has been praised as completely original and brilliantly conceived.

Shelter seeks food donations for pets
RANCHO SANTA FE ---- The AniMeals program at the Helen Woodward Animal Center is seeking pet food donations, particularly senior food for both dogs and cats. AniMeals works with Meals-on-Wheels and other organizations to provide free pet food for the dogs and cats of elderly or disabled people throughout San Diego County. Donations can be dropped off at the Helen Woodward Animal Center, 6461 El Apajo Road, or in the AniMeals bins at participating Petco stores. Volunteers can also hold their own AniMeals pet food drive through their office, family, school, church or temple group, scout troop, or civic organization.
