SAN DIEGO (AP) ---- San Diego-area lifeguards headed to Mexico on Monday to help find an 11-year-old Orange County boy who went missing in the ocean south of Tijuana.

San Diego County Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Maurice Luque said about 30 local lifeguards are expected to participate in the search.

Paul Colunga and his cousin were riding wave boards off the beach near Rosarito on Aug. 22 when they got caught in a rip current. Paul struggled to break free, then slipped under water. The cousin clung to his board and was pulled to shore by a relative.

Paul's father, Jerry Colunga, is a mechanic with the Orange County Fire Protection Authority. Luque said the father has camped on beach, hoping to find his son alive.
