Museum offers youth events
TEMECULA ---- "Studying Bugs and Reptiles" will be the topic for a family event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Temecula Children's Museum.
Participants will see some live critters.
Pennypickle's Science Night will be held Nov. 7, highlighting messy, gooey and astonishing scientific wonders .

Rummage sale to benefit Relay for Life
LAKE ELSINORE ---- Two Relay for Life teams will hold a rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakeside High School.
Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life run Oct. 11-12 at Canyon Lake Middle School. Teams from the Lake Elsinore Rotary Club and Canyon Lake Middle School will be represented on Saturday.

Cherokee group plans potluck
RIVERSIDE ---- Cherokee Community of Inland Empire will hold a meeting and potluck to introduce four visiting teachers from the Cherokee Nation from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday .
The teachers will discuss the problems some people have with genealogy.
Cherokee Community of Inland Empire, which usually meets from 1 to 3 p.m. the third Saturday of each month, is searching for residents with Cherokee blood who would like to find out about their heritage and skills. The group is overseen by the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma.

Annual coastal cleanup Saturday
The 24th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. It's part of a worldwide cleanup effort that brings more than 70 nations together to improve the Earth's oceans and waterways.
Volunteers will be working at more than 700 coastal and inland shorelines throughout California.

Young Marines plan brunch
WILDOMAR ---- The Wildomar Young Marines will have a breakfast buffet brunch from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
The meal will include pancakes, eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausage. The cost is $7 and proceeds will go toward sending the Young Marines to Hawaii in November.

Library offers Wii competition
LAKE ELSINORE ---- A Super Smash Bros. Brawl competition using the Nintendo Wii will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Lake Elsinore Library.

PAL offers fiber arts class
TEMECULA ---- The Temecula Police Activities League will offer a fiber arts class beginning Thursday.
Participants aged 10 and older will learn techniques such as how to use a sewing machine using textiles.
Classes will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursdays until Nov. 20 at the Temecula Community Center. The cost is a $25 supply fee.

Dakota Club opens season
SUN CITY ----- The Dakota Club of Sun City will kick off its 21st year at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Wheatfield Park.
"What I did last summer" stories and a potluck lunch are scheduled.
The purpose of the club is to promote fellowship and goodwill and foster the mutual interests of persons who have lived in either of the Dakotas.
Officers for the 2008-09 season are Maggie Olson, president; Merle Derscheid, vice president and program chair; Norma Koch, secretary; and Alice Miller, treasurer.
The club meets the fourth Thursday of every month except November, June, July and August. A Christmas party luncheon is scheduled for Dec. 18.

Cafh Foundation starts series
WILDOMAR ---- Cafh Foundation will have a meditation and dialogue for adults on the topic "Is there a difference between Prayer, Meditation and Reflection?" from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The program runs in conjunction with a class called "Living from the Heart" for children, ages 5 to 9.
The Cafh Foundation is a nonprofit organization working for unfolding consciousness.

Day of Wine and Chocolate tickets available
TEMECULA ---- Pastry chefs and chocolatiers will offer their sweet sensations in concert with wines from Temecula Valley's wineries at Hospice of the Valley's 12th annual "A Day of Wine and Chocolate" fundraiser. The event will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at Wilson Creek Winery.
Music will be provided by Guilty Conscience. There will be silent and live auctions for items such as a private catered dinner utilizing chocolate in the salad, entree and dessert courses.

Breathers headed to follies
MURRIETA ---- Therapy Pros Pulmonary Rehab Program, in conjunction with the Better Breathers Support Group, are offering a trip to the "Fabulous Palm Springs Follies" on Oct. 24.
The trip includes a bus ride, lunch and an instructional lecture to help people learn about preventing lung disease as well about emphysema, bronchitis, asthma and other lung problems.

Cancer Society offers transportation
The American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program provides transportation for cancer patients to and from medical/treatment appointments. Rides are provided by volunteer drivers who donate their time and the use of their personal vehicles.
The society is recruiting volunteers to drive patients, or to provide other forms of transportation assistance, such as gas cards.
Road to Recovery is offered to cancer patients who have no means of transportation and/or are too ill to drive themselves.
Volunteer driving requires a safe driving record and a serviceable vehicle. Proof of automobile insurance also is required.

Singles group bowls weekly
The Country Club Crowd, a group for single seniors, offers league bowling at 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays at Cal Oaks Bowl in Murrieta.

MURRIETA ---- Veterans Affairs Counseling Service is offered twice per month at the Murrieta Senior Center. The next session will be Wednesday.

MURRIETA ---- The Murrieta Senior Center offers free legal aid from 9 to 11 a.m. the first Thursday of each month.
Lawyer Anita Milner volunteers her time to answer questions on topics such as government benefits, power of attorney, joint tenancies and in-home care.
Appointments are limited to four per month and reservations must be made at least a week in advance.

Volunteers teachers also are being recruited to share their skills with seniors.
