Sierra Club meets Thursday
TEMECULA ---- The Sierra Club, Santa Margarita Group, will focus on conserving energy when members meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rancho California Water District headquarters.
The speaker will be George Williams, an environmental specialist with Southern California Edison. Guests can see an all-electric, plug-in car.
Grey Frandsen, the Sierra Club endorsed candidate for State Assembly District 66, will speak briefly. Members also will celebrate the Santa Margarita chapter becoming an official Sierra Club group.

Elks host bingo games
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Lake Elsinore Elks Lodge hosts weekly Thursday night bingo games at Trevi Entertainment Center. Doors open at 4 p.m. and warm-ups are at 6.
Proceeds benefit the Elks charitable activities.

Aerospace collection on display
WILDOMAR ---- Max Stark, a retired aerospace engineer, will speak when the Wildomar Historical Society meets at noon Saturday at the Mission Trail Library.
Stark will display his extensive collection of Apollo and space shuttle items, including stamped first-day envelopes and mission patches.

NAACP To host candidates
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Lake Elsinore Branch of the NAACP has invited candidates for the Lake Elsinore City Council to its meeting Saturday at the Lake Elsinore Cultural Center.
The meeting begins at 11 a.m. and the candidates will appear at noon.
The Lake Elsinore Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People serves southwestern Riverside County.

Rose society plans garden party
TEMECULA ----The Temecula Valley Rose Society will hold the "Last Rose of Summer Garden Party" from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Rose Haven Public Gardens.
The cost is $25, which includes food and beverages. Proceeds will be used to promote, develop and maintain Rose Haven Public Garden, which is home to more than 1,900 roses, hybrid teas, floribundas, climbers and mini roses.
The garden is at the corner of Jedediah Smith Road and Cabrillo Avenue.

Elks Ladies plan dance
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Elk Ladies will host a dance from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday featuring Sam DeFazio's Good Time Band.

Women's club plans rummage sale
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Elsinore Woman's Club will hold its semi-annual rummage sale next week at its clubhouse.
Sale times are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Oct. 3 and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 4.
Funds help the club support projects such as libraries and literacy; educational scholarships; natural resource conservation; holiday assistance; women's health programs; encouragement of the arts; and hospitalized veterans.
Items will include Christmas decorations, toys, electronics, shoes, purses, dishes, pots and pans, bedding, pillows, curtains and furniture.

Oak Grove volunteers to meet
MURRIETA ---- A volunteer group, Angels for Oak Grove, meets monthly to benefit Oak Grove, a residential treatment facility and school that serves children with a variety of social, emotional, medical and neurological impairments.

Merchant Marine vets to meet
SUN CITY ---- Richard Goward, a retired naval officer, will be the speaker when the Old Salts Chapter of the Merchant Marine Veterans of World War II meets Oct. 2.
The luncheon meeting starts at noon at Boston Billie's Restaurant.
The Old Salts meet the first Thursday of every month and is open to all current and veteran Merchant Mariners and their spouses and friends.

Councilwoman to speak at tea
TEMECULA ---- An English high tea and fall fashion collection preview will be hosted by Temecula Valley Republican Women Federated Oct. 5.
Temecula City Councilwoman Maryann Edwards will discuss "The Dynamic Future of the Temecula Valley" at the event, which will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Temeku Hills Golf Club.
The fashion show will include chic, classic, colorful designs. The tea parlor will feature premium British teas, fresh baked scones and assorted toppings, assorted tea sandwiches, fresh fruits and desserts.
The cost is $25 per person. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Soldiers' Angels organization.

Woman's club seeks vendors

Kiwanis, Rotary plan golf tourney
SUN CITY ---- The Kiwanis Club of Sun City-Menifee Valley and the Rotary Club of Sun City-Menifee Valley will host the fourth annual Charity Golf Challenge on Nov. 14 at Menifee Lakes Country Club.
The event will benefit local Kiwanis and Rotary projects, as well as Menifee Valley Community Cupboard.
The cost is $125, or $30 for the banquet alone.

Home tour tickets available
TEMECULA ---- The Temecula Valley Woman's Club will hold its Annual Holiday Home Tour and Gala Nov. 21 to 23.
The Salute to our Warriors Gala will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 21 at Keyways Winery. It will include dinner, entertainment, military color guard, no-host wine bar, live and silent auctions and desserts.
Tickets are $100, which include a Holiday Home Tour ticket. Proceeds are earmarked for the club's Wounded Veterans Van Project.
The Holiday Home Tour, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 22 and 23, will feature three homes in Temecula's Wine Country that will be professionally decorated for the holidays.
There will also be a variety of vendors, artists and artisans, a food court, coffee and wine bar, and musical entertainment. Tickets are $30 in advance, or $35 at the door.

Chamber collecting bicycles
MENIFEE ---- The Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce is collecting gently-used bicycles to be refurbished and given to underprivileged children at Christmas.
The chamber is working with the Chino Institute for Women to refurbish the bikes. Santa's Workshop will distribute them, with the help of the Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Menifee Community Cupboard and Riverside County Fire Department's Spark of Love program.
Bicycles will be collected until Tuesday.
Bike donations may be taken to the Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce, 27070 Sun City Blvd., Sun City, or the Quail Valley Fire Station, 28971 Goetz Road, Quail Valley. For pick-up information, call 541-8042.
College hosts register, recycle day
MENIFEE ---- Phi Theta Kappa and the Eco-Club at Mt. San Jacinto College will collect plastic bags and empty bottles and cans during Register and Recycle Day Thursday.
Members will accept recyclables at booths stationed around campus.
While there, participants can register to vote, learn about the presidential candidates and their positions on the environment, and how to live a more environmentally friendly life.
Items will be collected from 8 a.m. to noon at the campus at La Piedra and Antelope roads.
Craft show this week
TEMECULA ---- Fairytale Festivals will have its 11th annual Fall Arts and Crafts Show Thursday through Sunday in the Temecula Town Center.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Items will include decorative clothing, florals, yard art, jewelry and holiday items.

Family night goes Polynesian

Registration open for crafters
CANYON LAKE ---- Registration for crafters for the eighth annual Canyon Lake Holiday Boutique will be held starting Monday. The event will be Nov. 8 and 9.
All crafts must be homemade. The entry fee is $15, plus 15 percent of sales will be donated to the senior center.
Registration is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays: Sept. 29 and Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27, at the Canyon Lake Senior Center, 23307 Canyon Lake Drive. There also will be evening signups from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 20.

Martial arts classes offered
LAKE ELSINORE ---- Tae kwon do classes for ages 4 to adult are offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Lake Community Center. New sessions begin the first week of each month.
The Olympic-style classes, from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. Mondays and 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, are taught by Master Tom Vo, a fifth-degree black belt.
The fee is $20 for one day a week, $35 for two days and $45 for all three.

Mountain Rescue Unit holding auction
Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit is holding a raffle for a weekend golf package for two in order to raise operational funds.
The grand prize includes two nights and two rounds of golf at the Warner Springs Ranch. Second prize is children's golf lessons with PGA pro Mike Raschko.
Funds raised will go toward operational expenses and the training on a large group of members who have recently joined the team.
RMRU is a volunteer, nonprofit, mountain search and rescue team.
Raffle tickets, at $5 apiece or $20 for five, can be purchased online at www.rmru.org.
