CARLSBAD: Jimbo's to eliminate plastic shopping bags

By North County Times | Sunday, October 5, 2008 5:24 PM PDT

CARLSBAD ---- Starting Oct. 11, Jimbo's health food stores in San Diego will no longer offer plastic shopping bags, the store said in a news release last week.

In addition, the chain's San Diego stores will donate 5 percent of their sales on that date to the Surfrider Foundation to support a larger initiative to reduce the amount of plastic waste.

Customers who shop at Jimbo's on Oct. 11 will also receive a 5 percent discount or a chance to donate the amount of the discount to the Surfrider Foundation.

Rise Above Plastics is a Surfrider Foundation program intended to raise awareness of the problems with plastics in oceans and the amount of plastic waste generated.

In addition to Carlsbad, Jimbo's has locations in Carmel Valley, Escondido and 4S Ranch. For more information, visit the company's Web site at www.jimbos.com.
