Chaparral plans college workshops
TEMECULA ---- Chaparral High School has scheduled upcoming sessions to help students plan or apply for college.
An education planning seminar for parents of sophomores will be held from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the performing arts center.
There also will be a number of college application workshops for Chaparral seniors.
Students must sign-up in the College & Career Center, room 262. Workshops begin at 7:30 a.m. in the performing arts center.

College funding workshop slated
TEMECULA ---- College Funding Strategies will hold a workshop to teach parents of high schoolers about college financing opportunities at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Temecula Public Library.
The free workshop will take parents through the intricacies of the college funding system from applications to a discussion of major grants and loans.

Cheer clinic planned
TEMECULA ---- The Temecula Valley High School Cheer program will hold a cheer clinic fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Children will be taught a cheer that they will perform on the field during the home football game on Oct 17.
The cost is $35 in advance and $45 the day of the event. A T-shirt and snack will be provided. Proceeds benefit the school's cheer program.

Dinner to benefit scholarships
MURRIETA ---- Murrieta High Schools' Scholarship Foundation will host the annual Dinner Under the Oaks from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Santa Rosa Plateau.
Dinner, which will include barbecue chicken and ribs, will be served under the shade of a 400-year-old tree in the picnic area at the reserve.
The cost is $50. Proceeds will go to the foundation to provide scholarships for the district's college-bound seniors.

Members sought for oversight committee
MURRIETA ---- The Murrieta Valley Unified School District is looking for people to serve on a committee overseeing the $120 million bond measure that voters approved in 2006.
The purpose of the Measure E Citizens Oversight Committee is to ensure funds from the measure are spent correctly. The money goes toward school construction and other facilities projects, such as building repairs and technology updates.
Members of the committee must be a part of one of the following groups: business representative, senior citizen, parent of a district student, member of a taxpayer organization, at-large community member or parent active in a Murrieta school district parent-teacher organization. Committee members serve two-year terms.

Casino night to benefit Great Oak
TEMECULA ---- The Great Oak High School Grad Night Committee is sponsoring a casino night starting at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at South Coast Winery as a fundraiser for the all-night graduation party.
Tickets cost $50, which includes appetizers, dessert, casino games and raffle prizes. There also will be a silent auction.
