No more than 20 minutes to cast our ballots.

Go Obama! This is the first time I've been this interested in the outcome of an election, and the first ever that to which I've donated. I think the man is smart, well spoken, and will be able to pull Americans together in a way unprecedented in recent history.
Lea wrote on Nov 4, 2008 8:48 AM:There was a line out the door at my polling location in Escondido. Good to see! The line still went fairly fast.
What was NOT cool was an employee of the location the poll was at, while walking out, patting a man behind me on the shoulder and saying "be sure to vote Republican".
Had to notify the poll workers, as well as complain to the Registrar of Voters about that.
No ELECTIONEERING at the polls people...

A very short line at Reynolds Elementary at 8:30 this morning. No problems really. However, I didn't like the way the guy placed my ballot into the box. After putting my ballot in the "Secret Sleeve", he removed it and bumblingly, slowly put it in the ballot box slot. It seemed he was actually scoping out my votes! Pretty rude for a poll worker to do so in my opinion, and I do not understand why I myself can not place it in the ballot box.
Karl wrote on Nov 4, 2008 9:26 AM:Lea @ 8:48 AM:
As a former poll worker I am kind of shocked that this poll worker did this. All poll workers are trained on the rules and this is rule number one. All the poll workers that I have worked with are mostly retired (except the one student per poll) and are there because of a sense of civic pride and duty. I hope that you got his name and made a written complaint to the poll supervisor and will follow up with a complaint to Registrar. Each poll also has a roving County Reistrar worker that supervises many polls (the poll workers have his/her cell phone number). The volunteer poll workers don't have much authority beyond reporting incidents to their immediate supervisor. Please follow up and make sure this gentlemen is removed.
But before you make a stink be sure that the action took place within 100' of the poll.

Delighted to vote for hopefully the next President. The gentleman with a brain and knows how to use it.
Obama certainly knew how to keep his campaign on the high road instead of copying the others that were mostly interested in mud-slinging.
Obama is bright and will reach out to those on the other side of the aisle. Will probably 'hire' some from the other side of the aisle. He will not ask them for their SAT scores.
We, the public must take responsibility to help heal the nation. Red states, blue states -- rubbish. Country First "UNITED STATES" of America.
JFK election was a memorable event, too. He was a Catholic who worked based on the Constitution and Bill of Rights for the Country as a Senator and as President.
JFK and all elected officials always pledge to follow the Constitution not the bible.
Chuckles wrote on Nov 4, 2008 9:29 AM:It was quite an evening! Let me tell you. I dimmed the lights, and put on some soft jazz. I lit a candle and opened a bottle of cabernet sauvignon. And, while curled up in my comfy chair, and with the imagination of Miles Davis filling the softly lit room, I took my favorite pen, ball point black, and carefully bubbled each of my electoral selections. When I was finished, I then folded the ballot, placed it in the envelope, sealed the envelope with a kiss, got up from my comfy chair, signed the ballot envelope, affixed a stamp, and placed the envelope in the outgoing mail. I didn't know how the evening was going to end, but it sure was a night to remember!

The reason that you cannot place your ballot in the box is that if allowed, the general public could pull many more shenanigans (slight of hand) than the poll worker.
A word to the wise. Everytime I worked the polls I got some sort of cold or flu until I started washing my hands every 10 minutes or so. I suggest asking if you can use your own pen and immediately going to the restroom to wash your hands.

Having moved recently (yet forwarding all my mail including voter registration) I have received no notice as to where I might vote in Temecula, and was told my old registration location in El Segundo (2 hours away) does not have my registration either. I've been voting for 30 years and now i am unable to cast my vote for John McCain and YES on 8!!! Very disappointing and frustrating! Both my husband and I noticed the type of ballot this year. It was the ballot where you fill in the oval with a black pen. We both like that type of ballot the best. A few years ago when I voted we were offered electronic and I refused it so they gave me a paper one. This year electronic ballots were not even offered thank goodness. We don't like the ballot where you punch a hole either. This 'fill in the oval' is the best.

My vote went fine except that I forgot the reading glasses. I waded through it though, just took longer. It was crowded but one booth was open when I signed in.
The enviros will be happy to know that I waited for a break in the rain so that I could drive my electric golf cart to the polling location.

You can vote. go to your closest polling place. Tell them what is going on. They will provide you with a provisional ballot. That means you cast it now. You can only vote for things that are statewide....like pres and props ... not Temecula specific. Then they take your ballot, verify you are registered in El Segundo, and then count you votes....it takes a few days to be counted, but you never know, it could change the outcome. Every vote counts. Go vote, ask for a provisional ballot.

We voted at someones garage that had the fill in forms with a marker, a dull and smeary one at that. I had to do a double-take on the form for whom I voted for President because the type was spaced very tight. I started thinking that if I didn't have perfect vision, I might possibly fill in the incorrect bubble if not paying good attention. It's hard to believe that these forms are not better designed to make it VERY CLEAR which bubble to fill in. Hopefully, most will not rush it, take the time to make sure they filled in the correct bubbles.

It felt good and the poll workers were professional and courteous as they always have been over the years. No funny business - no pushing a vote this way or that - just poll workers happy to see people participating in the process. Thanks poll workers in Northern Escondido!

I don't get why some poll locations (specifically east of the mighty Mississippi) have long lines. In my 37 years of voting (California, Oregon and Arizona) I've never had to take more than 20 minutes. Do us nutjobs on the west coast know more than the States back east? I think so.

potential rioting wrote on Nov 4, 2008 1:47 PM:Yeh, we heard that even months ago. This morning on three different news stations it was mentioned that places like Illinois, Detroit Mi, Philadelphia and other places are preparing just in case. I hadn't heard anything about 'black folks' rioting, just American people in general.
I wouldn't doubt it if some people get out of hand no matter who wins. Philadelphia had a level of rioting even after the Phillies won the series! This is not the first time people rioted after a positive event. Some of my own neighbors and loudly opinioned about this election, to the point where we are staying away from them till the election is over.
My two cents to all who read this...most of us won't riot but no matter who wins, let's be happy we live in America, have the freedom to vote for our leaders and propositions and have the ability to share in molding this wonderful free country.
The United States of America NOT the Divided States of America. United we stand divided we fall. Let's not end up being our own worst enemy.
Peace to you all.

Hopefully our Christmas Present(s) will be smart, sincere, untanted, and get our Country back to some kind of Humanity for All.

Common Sense wrote on Nov 4, 2008 4:16 PM:Dear Questionable...it likely went to your old address. Nothing stinky. Even if someone else tried to vote it, they would kick it out if the signature did not match your past sigs. If you move again, and send in a change of address, check within 30 days. Or go directly to the ROV and change it in person. Everyone wants you to vote.
As for a coworkers wife had a similar.....way too many variables possible in that one to even try to answer. It's likley a combination of reasons, but fraud ain't one of them. I have countless examples of people making mistakes that cause their status to be in jeopardy, but again, none involve fraud or conspiracy.

That is funny. That is like saying the illegals will riot in Escondido if the other "O" does not win.

I still must say, I can't believe I don't have to show some form of id. I saw my mom's name (who passed away last year)-- I could have easily returned and voted using her name...

I jumped ship and voted Obama and as I watch the tv and they project Obama the winner, I pray he can turn our country around and restore our faith in our government AND our country. JimRT wrote on Nov 5, 2008 8:43 AM:After getting to my neighborhood poll garage, I went right in and got my paperwork. The only strange think was when I said my name and address in my native (English) California accent and the girl handing me my ballot asked “English or Spanish”. I looked at her a moment and then said “que?” I got a good laugh out of that one but still do not understand why she felt she had to ask. Are there many non-English speaking people that vote? If there are, is there status checked. I do not want to cause a ruckus but I am curious.

To TO EVERYONE wrote on Nov 5, 2008 10:20 AM:To the blogger called 'TO EVERYONE' at 6:03pm, Nov 4,
You may call some of us ignorant, ignorant, ignorant but you I call complacent, complacent, complacent. Do you even know what complacent means? 'Self-satisfied and unaware of possible dangers'.
To Jim RT wrote on Nov 5, 2008 10:25 AM:Oh sure...you didn't want to "cause a ruckus".
And so...with your very serious inquiry - you opted to post the query on the BLOGS.???
DUH. I guess calling the registrar of voters would have been too logical!
No - JimRT - we are not buying your story - you obviously wanted to stir up the immigration pot.
Too bad you haven't caught on that our ECONOMY is the number one ISSUE with the MAJORITY OF ALL THE CITIZENS OF THE USA. If you would pull your head out of the magazine of ignorance, then maybe you would have watched the elections last night and realized what so many have already realized: THE ECONOMY IS THE BIGGEST CONCERN!!
And instead of simmering in the pot of intolerance, you would have actually participated at one of the many elections party headquarters bashes, where the people followed and learned and watched and held their breaths every moment of the evening...and they celebrated and they consoled and they PARTICIPATED. Your big contribution was: you voted and you took her comment personally (instead of thinking "hey this lady has been here all day and she might be tired or she might ask that of all the voters").
Another weak attempt by the naysayers to try to divide the people. It's like the days of slavery - we learned from that shame of history. And here we are in 2008 and we have JimRT trying to divide the people - while most are striving for unification! Wake UP, JimRT - it's 2008!
Obviously, you do not recognize the SIGNIFICANCE of our national results - and I'm sure that you are even more oblivious to the reality of life on the local level. OUR ECONOMIC STRUGGLES - homes lost - jobs lost - savings lost - increased costs of living - etc...
Soon, the elections and the results thereof will not be the talk of the town - our elected officials will get down to business. What will you do with your "curiosity"? How will you find a way to spread more of your ignorant fears?
Sounds like a sad outlook for you. Many others will be looking for ways to help each other - to lift each other up - to extend a hand - to support - to encourage our fellow mankind. We will not concentrate on the negative - We will look for the better...the best...and we know that the only way to achieve that is to stand united.
Hope you change your mind.

To Why did we bother wrote on Nov 5, 2008 6:40 PM:Oh ... they're votes counted alright. They just wouldn't have been enough to change the outcome based on the overall landslide that was occurring throughout the rest of the country. With the final numbers in, Obama didn't even need California to pull it off.
